| Senior Member | Rear Sight help Hello everyone, I have a couple of mosins (a 91/30 and M-38 that I removed the rear sight from to mount a scope rail and optics. Well, I don't like them so I am trying to restore them to original form. I've been having a heck of time getting the rear sights back on. I just can't seem to get them lined up to get the pin back through. Any tips or techniques??? ![]()

| Senior Member | did you try removing the rear sight base on the 91/30 to mount 3/8th" scope rings directly to the dovetail that's made onto the receiver? that gives a really nice look....now if you dont like scout scopes because of maybe vision problems, then yeah, go ahead and remount ur rear sight leaf. this is what the rifle would look like if u mounted scope directly to receiver after removing rear sight base: ![]() Now if you mounted it like i did mine....it'd be sucked down very close to receiver, but u gotta do slight mods(no metalwork) to rings....but it looks deadly even like pictured above. . . . that setup costs me a total of $65 for NCStar scope and Leupold vertical split rings....and gunsmith charged $30 to remove sight base....if i can find my post in another thread, i'll link it so you can see model numbers etc of the parts i got....i got top of the line scope from them so that shows the highest you'll pay.

| Senior Member ![]() | I forgot to mention above I use a piece of wood, or a rubberized punch between the sight leaf and C clamp to protect the sight!

| Senior Member | Well, I tried a C-clamp already, but I don't think it was big enough. The problem was probably that it was a little too small. I only have little ones and some really big ones. Guess I'll have to hit Harbor Freight. Thanks to everyone for their input.

| Senior Member ![]() | If you have someone help you, you could put the punch on the sight leaf and tie a loop of string or rope around the whole rifle. Then insert a screwdriver in the loop and keep twisting it unil it forces it down into position.
