Just makes me sick.

I recall when the FBI switched to semi autos. The Bureau had several thousands of Smith and Wesson Model 10's. They could have sold them to their agents for a steal of a price (I think like $50-100 or something). Instead Klinton ordered them to be detroyed.

Troy, there does seem to be a policy of the military destroying useable equipment instead of making it available to the surplus market.
Being a proud owner of the Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle, I and many others were hoping the Marine Corp's diesel powered KLR's would be made available to us - NO GO! They are being destroyed!
Granted the bikes were never DOT certified, so would be difficult if at all possible to license for road use - but we wanted those motors!
So it is with guns - they destroy them rather than sell them.

My Navy frigate, in the 80's, had the M-14 on board for our Security Force. Since we had no Marines, we did our own GI Joe work. I loved that rifle!I made sure I got it during the Security Alerts. It's so far the last gun I need that I used in the service. I have my Remmy 870 and Colt 1911.
My little ship got transferred to the Turkish Navy in 1994 - I wonder if those M-14's went there too?

We did that with the T-3 Slingsby's--a nice aerobatic little airplane -- they were grounded and sitting derelect at Hondo. Doubt we'll ever sell them for liability reasons--probably be destroyed. Nothing major really ever wrong with the design either.
