If you want to use a 3/4" ball bearing, you'll have to heat it up bright red-hot, then quickly bury it deep in a bucket of lime powder and let it cool really slow. That's how we used to soften heat-treated steel back in my machine shop days. Not sure if that would soften up a ball bearing enough to drill though. Probably not.

Quickest and easiest way would be to have one made on a lathe out of soft cold-rolled bar stock. A decent machinist should be able to do that, I'd drill the hole in it with the lathe first, then shape the ball and polish it, and finally part it off. There'd only be a little nub left to grind/file off. Piece o'cake, but I don't know what machine shop time costs nowadays.
