so i dont think im going to get the impact driver because the general consensus is that no one would use it on a firearm, so i wont either. i just ordered some kroil from MidwayUSA so hopefully that will work. So should i just soak the entire bore/reciever of the gun because the screw is right in the bottom of the receiver i guess im not sure what u would call it. the kroil wont damage the other parts of the gun like the extractor and or sear/sear spring or trigger? Does "rapping" with a hammer mean tapping it with a hammer, right? thats what you meant? |

I'm a Gunsmith and I will use one on Badly stuck or frozen screws on Military guns whenever necessary...Done right, it does the job of loosening with one good whack with the right bit, no damage to the screw...You risk Buggering up the screw slot more with a screwdriver because you cannot hold the downward force and turn the screw at the same time...When it slips, it rips the slot Period. People that say don't use one , Never have used one, or used it improperly. I use them on staked Bayonet screws that are LOCKED in Place, so I know what I'm talking about...You will not remove them any other way... Rich

It may have just been my rifle since was it was war time and they were in a hurry to get it out of the factory. But if you are having problems and don't notice any difference in the trigger that's probably it. I'll try to post a close up picture (soon?) of the inletting so you have a rough idea where the problem area is.

I would of ordered a new screw by now, and torqued that baby out of there with needle-nosed vice grips! But, I am not a Gunsmith either, and I don't have an impact driver, LOL! Why not use an impact driver? Isn't that what the tool was designed for? You are worried about an impact driver messing up a screw, but you'd beat your bolt back with a 2x4? C'mon!

i got the screw out but more problems arose. when installed first, the trigger was in the all the way forward position, and i could not pull the trigger. backed out the adjustment screw, no dice. after some inletting of the stock i got the trigger to pull, but then i think the set screw in the trigger got striped because it doesnt sctew down past a certain point, it will just fall out. im going to contact huber to try to get a replacement. o also when the trigger was in i couldnt get the bolt to go into the reciever, the trigger stopped it, wtf huber? Seems to me I had some of the same problems with mine. I had keep inletting making sure nothing touched the trigger. I'd post a pic of just how much inletting I had to do but it will be another 24 hours before I can.
