If you are going to drill hardened steel you will probably need a spade drill. I don't know if anyone mentioned it or not if they did I apologize.

the balls are soft carbon steel. they drilled out fine. i worked my way up to 3/8ths with about 8 smaller bits. got a bit nervous that the ball would crush in the drill vice with the bigger bits, but it turned out fine. i'll shoot a pic of the finished bolt.
