DPMS .308 "Key Holing"

Shot my DPMS .308 carbine for the first time a couple of weeks ago (doing the barrel break in procedure as recommended) and noticed when I checked the target (200 yards) that the bullets were key holing. Ammo
was Magtech 150 gr. FMJ Are the .308 rifles finicky with ammo ? Any other suggestions ?

You may have had some underpowered ammo? Also, what bullet
design did you have?

I feel a little more info is needed as a .308 should not keyhole at
200 yards.

It could also be the type of paper used for the target. Try some other targets before worrying too much.

My guess would be wrong bullet weight for your barrel twist

I can't see a 150gr .308 having issues in a 1 in 10 barrel.

I would look elsewhere first before blaming the gun. Anything is possible though...

I would try a different manufacture of ammo first. Magtech isn't the best

The Magtech ammo was solid point full metal jacket. I didn't think Magtech was a top name but they gave me a box with the gun. I will try some Hornady 168gr. next time. Thanks guys !

no wonder ! try to find hornady's or winchester/remington,or better yet 762.51
