| Texas T, thanks to you and Troy 2000 we may have discovered the real cause of global warming. It is the female species causing this. As Troy said, your getting on line here raises the male members temperatures by several degrees, multiply this phenomena by the number of females on earth and there you have it. Global Warming!

| Depending greatly upon what state and even more so which particular school district any substitute teacher works for determines exactly what manner and level of support he or she might get from either the Teachers Association. Teachers Union or Coalition. Depending upon his actual status (ie: either short or long term sub, Certified or non-Certified Teacher) also significantly impacts this situation. As a former certified instructor myself and the fact that my Missus is a Degreed and fully permanant certified teacher I can only point out the assstounding idiocy of this particular School Districts actions. Each and every teacher has their own particular "Tools" they employ in the classroom everyday to gain the attention, provoke interest and provide the motivation to learn from their students. This teacher obviously found magic tricks and slight of hand of use to that end! In today's increasingly stressful education system it is fast becomming harder and harder to get dedicated teachers who truly care about what they are doing, teachers who much like the clergy, police and firefighters whom you can ask yourself see what they do not as a job but a calling. Idiotic narrow minded goofball situations which caused this mess do everything to ensure the demise of just the kind of teachers we want in our kids and grandkids classrooms, the dedicated impassioned ones who do it because they care!

| Senior Member | I think firing someone for wizardry is asinine. That said, is that the only way they could find to fire him. What I'm asking is what if he really, really sucked as a teacher and that was the opening they took to rid themselves of him. We know he sucked as a wizard so what if his teaching was just as bad.

Besides: as a substitute teacher, they probably didn't need a pretext. In most school districts, they aren't bound to call the subs in order, like it's a Maritime Union hiring hall; they could just start skipping him.

| Both good points Troy but as I noted above his actual status at the time of his dismissal can greatly affect what they can and cannot do. For instance in our local school district a long term substitute (more than 10 days) is considered as a "permanant employee" additionally by state law they must be a certified teacher in order to be a long term sub. Most fully certified teachers are former or retired teachers in the district they are subbing in, many of them remain members of their Teachers Associations as well. While a long term sub has no formal written contract there is an oral contract between the school and that teacher to sub for the period of time the permanant contracted teacher is absent from the classroom. A contract that is enforceable in a court of law. That being so there must be "Cause" shown permitting the teachers summary dismissal, the reason or "cause" must also be a violation of published school policy, school district regulation, of state or local laws which directly affect the competancy of the teacher or safety of the student population. In what I have gathered nothing of the sort was shown to be the case in this situation, rather I think the feller that dismissed this sub had been bitten one too many times at revival by them rattlesnakes and his reasoning was compromised.

| Senior Member | LadyT your right sometimes I cant tell. But Sometimes they cant tell when I'm agreeing either so it cuts both ways. I still cant get my little brain wrapped around this. I fear looking for logic in an illogical world will eventually drive me mad. If it hasn't already. buhahahahaaaa!!!!
