Concern about Nagant ammo

Has anyone here shot wadcutter .32 S&W Long out of their 1895 Nagant? I accidentally ordered the wadcutter type and the shape of the bullet has me concerned about its safety in a Nagant. It looks like it would end up plugging the barrel and causing bad things to happen. Any insight or experience would be appreciated.

Don't know for sure, but I think it would foul up pretty fast. Someone with more knowledge than I will be along.

Nice Picture. If it will shoot .32 S&W Long it should shoot .32 S&W Long Wadcutters also. Wadcutters are typically very accurate. At least they are in .38.

I didn't know you could shoot .32 S&W Long out of a Nagant though; did I miss that or did I not fully understand the question?

Yeah, you can shoot 32 S&W Longs out of a Nagant if you don't mind a bit of lead shavings coming back at you. The diameter of the .32 bullet is slightly larger than that of the Nagant round; so a bit of the lead gets shaved off when the bullet enters the barrel. It's a little extra cleanup, but not much.

From what I understand, the wadcutter bullet is designed for use on paper targets (not a defensive round). Instead of having a regular rounded nose; the nose is flat.

If it matters, the wadcutter rounds I have are made by Fiocchi. Whereas my 7.62 Nagant and .32 S&W Long come from Prvi Partizan.

If ball is safe enough I would imagine wadcutters would squish down in the same manner. I would love to know how this turns out though. I have wanted a Nagant revolver for quite a while, but the price of 7.62 Nagant for them has stopped me. Thanks for the heads up on the .32 SW long

Edit: If it shoots ball okay, I would not be afraid of trying the wadcutters.

Ask Mooseman ! I can't get over some of the nice condition Nagant revolvers I've seen on here and at other place's.

The standard Nagant round is smaller dia than a 32 is. It will work but you may get lead buildup in your barrel it will clean out with some brushing. I got some 98 grain wadcutter bullets for my nagant from Graf they are 308. dia and copper plated can't wait to see how they shoot.

I think I'm going to tie it to a tree and try a few of those rounds. They should be alright but I'm not going to risk bodily harm testing them. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

The Nagant is the best revolver $80 can buy.

I don't know, I heard bad things about spitting lead from shooting WC's in a Nagant. Since the forcing cone is not really a forcing cone, and 32's don't do the gas seal thing, I would tend to believe it.

It's been a while but I have a resolution to my own question.

Wadcutters WILL work in a Nagant; but they aren't any fun. The low powder charge in wadcutters makes it feel like you're shooting a pellet gun instead of a real one.

As to the lead buildup; I only fired 7 wadcutters and there was quite a bit of lead to clean away afterwards.

Verdict: You won't enjoy it, but they do work.
