I'll admit guys both in and out of the service I have spent a great deal of time in a tent and tarps/ parachute shrouds in the outdoors. However as I have aged I have found that while I still find the experience attractive and fun it is no longer very comfortable or practical for the wife and I. We own an older pickup and a small slide in cab over camper that is comfy for the both of us the few concessions to convienece is a radio and the galley . Even though 90% of our cooking is still over a fire at our campsite.

I have a Starbuck's stainless steel french press/travel mug. All I need is a hotwater source (I've got a small backpacker's coleman one burner stove) and medium ground coffee. It makes gourmet coffee. I can never go back to instant coffee, even while camping.

Tent or motor home

With the price of fuel I prefer the tent.

This weekend we are going on a gun holiday two other families of Gun and Game participants. The weather is 40s and rain so we chickened out and got cabins rather than the squad tent.

We will be shooting everything from single shot to full auto M2. 50BMG. Perhaps we need to give a report later.

I don't have a camper but want one. The idea of standing up out of the rain always appealed to me, and this time of year storms always blow through when you don't want them to. Keeping the coolers inside due to the drunk teenagers sounds nice, so does not sleeping on the ground for 4 days straight. That and my deer spot is 2 hours drive, with a camper it would be 5 minutes.

My son and i have always used tents when it is warm enough, but are used to "roughing it" in the bed of my old Explorer or truck in the winter.

If the dogs find a rattler within 25 ft. of our site.. I will sleep in the truck..too many instances with snakes in the morning where I camp...and if I or my son gets bit where we are... there's no coming home.

while camping, I prefer truck beds, or a tent, but I'm equally comfortable w/ a bed roll and no tent or truck if it's not rainy

camping

We always camp in a tent. Now and then I wouldn't mind having a camper like when really, really hot or really, really cold!

Tent, if I wanted to camp in something that had a toilet and A/C I'd stay inside a house.

Talking CHOICES

We were tenters for just years while the kids were growing up. Didn't camp for some time but started back last summer. The tent no longer works for me due to my health. Mama wanted a small camper so I bought her a COBALT -
the little Santa FE can pull it but is a struggle over the big hills So it was new truck time.

We roll along just fine now.

we usualy take both, camper to sit in and hold most of our stuff, and its a good alternative if its bad weather. but we sleep in the tents.

i recently had to take one of my sond to the outdoors er they had a nice setup infact i plan on trying to buy one or atleast one of the octogan tents not the whole vilage.lol they are made by http://crewboss.westernshelter.com/news/story.php?ID=40
they was awsome it was mobile hospitals in a winn-dixie parking lot with a/c and running water . they was very well made and very well insulated. they say they can be setup in 45 minutes by one trained person and 3 helpers so really a family of 4 or even 3 can have their survival home setup in less than a hour with all the things they have at home if needed.

I'm a tent guy, but since I do most of my camping while riding motorcycle, I don't have much of a choice.

I use a quality tent, usually Eureka, and a quality down sleeping bag, as well as a blanket that can either be used as extra insulation, or by itself if it's warm out.

Most importantly, I use an air mattress.. The ones that you'd use if you had guests coming over.. It gets me 6" off the ground and away from cold and ground bumps/rocks, and allows me to snore my fool head off..

I carry all this, as well as some cooking stuff on the bike and usually camp 12 or so times a summer..

The following are photos of my typical camp site and how my bike's loaded.. I use both my "dirt" bike and my Goldwing.. I don't have any photos of the Wing loaded, since everything's in the saddle bags and it doesn't look any different than when I'm riding to work..

I've pulled a trailer behind a bike.. It takes the fun out of it for me.. Personal choice thing.. I like to keep it comfortable, but minimal.. It's just me..

I have hundreds of thousands of Holiday Inn points, but like to camp in a tent..

just think of the hauling space in that little camper??you can store stuff under the matress /you can store stuff on top the matress while you toweing it. . it's nice and if you had one of them little coleman 1850 generators or some solar lanels you could pop out some tv with satelite too if needed. but for camping it would be nice . i bet it would be nice in the rain being you would be about 3' off the ground instaed of like everyone else and sleeping in a water puddle.
