Are these Brownings any good? I've alway been interested in them, but they sure are a little pricey......

they sure look rugged and pretty. i have read various comments that the Remington gas rifle is junk, dunno about that either.

I'm a south paw due on rifles to being left eye dominant....I have a couple of lefty bolts actions but am getting that sudden itch to buy something new, and knowing me it will have absolutely no practical purpose......

I thought about getting one of these in a larger caliber along the thought line that the semi auto gas operated rifle might recoil less than a bolt action.

Dana, how does that 7mm buck when you fire it?

know what would be "KEWL", when the AWB sunsets, if some one would make some quality 20 round mags for it!!!

My primary whitetail rifle is an older BAR Mk. I in .280, which I don't think is available anymore, but it's hands down the highest quality gun that I own. Not that the cartridge is particularly hard kicking, but the gas system does a great job of softening the recoil. It's easilly an accuracy match for most any bolt gun.

One word of warning: This has probably been fixed on the latest versions, but when I got mine I found it had a very hard time ejecting winchester's shiny silver-colored brass, I think it's nickel plated. After two trips back to Belgium it feeds anything I give it now, but it was a massive pain in the ***** to get it that way. My local gun store clerk told me it was a common problem because Browning in general uses very tight chambers.

Other than that one caveat, I can't think of a gun I'd recommend any more. Oh, and if you haven't happened to notice, the wood and metal finish on them is gorgeous.

I wanted one in 338 just to have as powerful a semi-auto as possible. Also had the insane idea of modifying original BAR mags to work, and installing a PSG-1 grip and custom straightline stock. It was to be called the Magnum Battle Rifle, suitable for fighting a charging pack of animals.

My dad's got one, I think the MkI 30'06, the last year before they came out with the MkII. He's never had any problems with it, it's a quality rifle to me.

My dad's favorite cal. was the 7mm mag. And yes it will get your attention. Personally I'll wimp out for a lighter load. If you want a caliber that will take any game on this continent the 7mm mag will take care of business.

What about accuracy? I think it has like an 18 or 20 inch barrell? I might be mistaken though.......

It's a 20". At least that's what mine is. Not that my collection is extensive but I wouldn't hesitate to say that it's the most accurate rifle that I own.
