Just wondering?

Just wondering if anyone out there hunts with dogs whether it be retrievers, setters, pointers, coon dogs, tracking dogs, or even beer retrivers. Been training dogs most of my life, but until now it has all been with obedience and Schutzhund training. I'm currently working with a five and a half year old black lab to go into to 40 degree water and get my ducks. He's too smart and makes me get my own ducks. I'd like to hear any stories about man's best friend past or present from anyone.

i had plenty of black labs growing up .i hunted evrything with them .to many stories to tell.now i have a golden retiever.she will kill anything that get within two feet of me or my wife but she won't touch a person .unless they show anger

my brother's chocolate lab jumped on my wife one time and rosie whooped her *** .i had to beat rosie with a stick to get her to turn the other dog loose .the other dog just wanted to play but rosie took it as she was attacking my wife because my wife hollared at the dog to get down because she had muddy paws. but rosie was fine with the other dog till that happened .

Had a St Bernard when I was a kid on the farm. "Tiny" loved to catch opossum's and throw them in the air and crunch them with his teeth.

This was all fine till my mother's friend visited with her little Mexican ChaWaWa. Tiny treated it the same way resulting in us having to buy her a new dog. Thought for a while we were going to get sued over that incident.

Still, Tiny was my best rabbit hunting partner. He'd tear up a brush pile in nothing flat getting to a rabbit. I was only allowed one shot, though, with my old 16 ga single shot.:nod:

I own three Brittainies at the moment. I have had quite a few over the years. They're great dogs: make good pets, gentle with children, and require minimal training to both point and retrieve. I hunt quail, pheasant, and doves with them. The only real negative is that they take longer than some other breeds to mature.

Funny Story: One of my current dogs is named Harry Houdini. Why? When he was a few days old, he managed to figure out a way to escape from his cage, despite the fact that his eyes had not opened yet! He has only gotten more clever over the years. Did I mention that Brittainies were pretty smart?
