Have your bow "tuned" and safety checked at a good shop.
Use the recommended arrow weight & length for your bow.
Decide between a release and finger shooting, this will dictate your draw lenght too.
Fiber optic sights are nice, use in conjunction with a peep.
Put moleskin on the arrow rest, cuts down on noise if the arrow falls off the rest.
Shoot broad heads as well as field points, point of impact is sometimes different.
make sure you have a safe backstop, a lot of commercial targets are available.
shoot in different positions, sitting, standing, and with all of your hunting clothes and gloves
If you use a quiver, practice with the quiver on the bow.
Practice ALOT.

I would go with the trigger release, makes for a smoother draw. Wal-mart sales a decent one for about 15 bucks if I remember right, although its been a few years since I had bought mine. It helped me out a lot especially when shooting 65lb draw weights. Good advice on being patient, don't move your target farther away until you are dead on 100% at a range.

one last thought, & to each his own.
i learned more about shooting a bow and bow hunting by doing it than anyone, or any magazine ever "taught" me.

it's almost unexplainable, but after a while you'll understand.
