BattleRifleG3 - You are correct in that the bolt system is a lot like the SKS, and since it is the Father of the FAL, it is definitely like the FAL.

I have seen it written that there is no way that the efforts of Saive which began in about the middle 1930's could have colaborated with Simonov in the bolt design, as the SKS was an early 1940's effort. I have seen that there was an earlier anti-tank weapon (I've read both German and Russian, and maybe they both had them) PTR that had the same bolt/bolt carrier design, several years before.
