Do you ever intend to get into reloading or not?

If not I'd go for the .308 if it's just for sport shooting.

The 30.06 is a VERY close second, and in some instances, better.

If you're gonna get into reloading either round can be refined to a good and super accurate recipe for the gun. Any gun as long as it's not a sloppy action and the chamber and bore is not shot.

With either the 30.06 or .308 your putting out the same bullet. The .308 can be refined just a hair better than 30.06... but not enough to matter unless you get into competition shooting or long range shooting (300 yd plus).
