Air Guns for Practice?

Would air guns be similar enough to firearms to use them for practice? I need something cheaper to shoot. Any air gun recommendations? I want something thats going to last awhile. Are the high powered air guns at big box stores any good(the ones under $150)? Thanks

I have a couple High powered airguns and the work fine. Only problem is they are kinda loud. Pretty much use my Savage Mark ll Bolt action with Aguila super colibri ammo instead. dont make as much noise. but they are to loud to use in pistols.

I would say it depends greatly on what kind of practice you need...

The practice I am looking for is my standing and sitting position unsupported shooting. Since these are both manual holds without a shooting sling, the springer pellet rifle I have in that price range works fine for me.

However if you were looking for prone position or benchrest practice, you would need to spend considerably more and step into the PCP type pellet guns.

Same kind of practice I want to do. Thanks

Just understand that springers can be picky about how they want to be held. YOU will have to experiment to see how well the gun groups with different holds.

I think that they are very good alternatives to practice cheaply. Just for the record, your local gunshop can most likely offer you more options than the big boxes and at a somewhat reasonable price. For a rifle I like the Benjamin pnuematics and the fun Crosman 1077 CO-2 repeater. The Walther replicas are a good option for pistol practice. Even Airsoft will work and there is a Japanese World Champion that can only practice with one in his home country. He is often on Shooting USA during the Bianchi, IPSC and other matches but I cannot think of his name at the moment.
