I finally got an AK

So today I went to the gunstore after selling one of my 22 rifles looking for a new lever action 22.

well long story short I ended with a WASR 10/63. Its in pretty good shape. The mag wiggles a bit but it feeds well enough just cycling the bolt. The wood is all mismatched but I liked the way it feels when I pick it up.

I cant wait to shoot it. Might order a couple extra mags tonight.

And on a last note-- does anyone have any old wood stock sets from a project they wanna sell?

If you can't find a stock set here, drew, try Sarco Inc. I think they have complete stock sets for the AK. I know we have at least one member who makes quality replacement AK stock sets, but while they are gorgeous they aren't cheap.

My son just DUMPED his wasr 3. It was the biggest piece of junk he ever owned, and of course, Dad told him not to buy it,. After 2 trips to the gunsmith who sold it, and 1 trip back to century Arms, it went bye bye on a trade in towards a new Remington R1.

The Wasr10/63 that I had was a rock star. I held groups tighter than alot of MAK-90s that I shot it against and I cant thing of a single problem that I ever had with it. Of course when the chance came to get a great deal on a Saiga x39 I sold the Wasr and bought the Saiga.

I think you are really going to like shooting your new rifle

You'll come to love the foregrip as the forward wood furniture gets very warm after awhile.

Very nice looking firearm that you'll come to appreciate and cherish especially in these times!

And that's exactly why my son got rid of it, failure to extract.

Now if I put a new stock on it does 922r come into play? The pistol grip and trigger i believe are tapco. Im not sure if anything else is. I bought it from a store so it should be 922r compliant already shouldnt it?

Sa-Weet.

As for the stock, I'd just try and find a buttstock that matches the grip and gas tube better. Even if it means sanding and staining.

Take a look at http://www.ironwooddesigns.com they have complete unfinished sets that you can stain a color of your choice and a variety of wood types at a pretty decent price

The stock you have now is Romanian so if you already have the required number of parts then it won't matter if you change the stock. Of course you could always go with a US made K-Var set and that would add three more parts to the list. That and your trigger group would give you the necessary six parts provided of course you don't mind it having polymer furniture. Tapco has stock sets in both wood and polymer and Ironwood has some top of the line wood but it's pricey. Either of those get you there as far as 922r is concerned.
