I feel this overwhelming pride from the fact that within a few hours time, I built, not just converted, but built an AK from a US made receiver (OOW) and an AMD parts kit. I'm so disappointed that I don't have digital camera ability to share pics, though I would say that it's still a work in progress. The receiver is still unfinished, and showing OOW's spot heat treatment around the axis pin holes for the FCG. I did a screw build using 10-32 stainless screws. If given the chance again, I'd have bought a screw kit from a fellow on akfiles.com that has highest quality, more aesthetic screws that are the right length for this build. As it was, I had to use screws twice as long as they should be, and shorten them with a Dremel. If I had riveting abilities I'd be a happy man. As it was, I bought two taps and ground one of them flat to serve as a finishing tap. Here's the closest Photo I can find to it. My version has a Saiga handguard instead of the lone lower wooden one, and generally insert a 20rd mag instead of a 30. First pic is from Joeken's site, of one made by Horn's custom guns ![]() Second is a doctoring I did of a Saiga conversion photo ![]() Haven't gotten to fire mine yet, but if it's anything like an AK should be, I should have nothing to worry about. Now that the ban is dead, you can make a pistol with a mag outside the grip, handguard, threaded barrel, and heavy weight. As long as it has never had a buttstock (ie a virgin receiver) and has a barrel under 16", and doesn't have a vertical foregrip, it isn't an NFA weapon subject to registration, approval, and taxation.

For a rifle, yes, for a pistol, no. That's legally a pistol, with a <16" barrel and NO buttstock, EVER. No foregrip, no AOW. Now that the ban is gone, it can have a mag outside the grip, a handguard, a threaded barrel, and a weight over 50oz unloaded.

:assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: I like the front pistol grip in the G3, what did you used inside the hand guard for suport of the PG. I got the same handguard, not the HK triangular (below) and want to install a bipod just below the handguard pin. I'm planning on cutting a SS thin plate and bend it around the HG attaching it with the HG pin and drilling the SS plate for the sling stud, that way the hang uard doesn't gets drilled. What do you think? :uzi: :uzi: :uzi: :uzi: :uzi:
