| Ok got the wife happy so now Im allowed to get me a new toy...Decided on an AK because it should make a good SHTF rifle. Anyway I keep seeign these 75 round drum magazines for only $100....Romain I believe. Are that any good? I was planning to get 1 or 2 and then 6 30 round mags...figured that should get me all but the most off the wall situations. I would love to get some input on them Thanks all. |

| They are pretty awesome. Heavy, though! But, if it hits the fan, you've got beaucoup firepower. Not many Homeys with HighPoints will stick around when you cut loose! Just keep plenty ammo in stock. The Romanians make pretty good weapons, so I would think their accessories would be good, too. That price seems okay, I've seen a bit lower and a lot higher. My SHTF weapon is my Bushpup. Wish I could get a drum for it! But I don't think it would handle well.

| Super Moderator ![]() | $100 is a darn good price for a drum, as long as it works well. Does it load through the top, or do you open it and wind it up? Big difference. One you have to load every round and they're under constant tension. The other you can load and wind up when you need it.

| It should be a law that every AK comes with a drum mag. They are great performers, and have a BIG intimidation factor on the bad guys!! :assult:

| I too saw the Romanian drums and of course had to have a couple. My experiance is as follows. My Chinese drum is easy to load and has operated perfectly so far. The Romanian drums came in sealed heavy plastic bags and are coated with oil. After cleaning, which was not bad,I found them hard to load, impossible with stripper clips and the loader. You must crank the handle every round or two but after that they are smaller and lighter than the Chinese and just as reliable. I sold on for $100 and kept the other. I personally like the overall performance of the Chinese drum when you take ease of loading into consideration.JMO:nod:

| Several years ago a friend and I were spending a afternoon shooting. We were shooting AK's and using Chinese drums. My friend pulled out a couple of his Russian drums. At the time they were pretty rare. We each loaded and fired them 3 times. Taking a break looking at our red sore thumbs we came to the conclusion that Russian drums are for collecting and Chinese drums are for shooting. |
