Are century ak's any good?

I need some expert advice as I am new to milsurp and such.

I got a circular from century yesterday, and frankly they have a deal I am finding very hard to resist.

I have been wanting an AK-47 and don't really care if it has a pig sticker on the end, comp, and the other unneeded junk.
Nor do I care if it has High Capacity mags...10's are big enough for me.

Century currently has wasr's in regular and dranunov type stocks (Don't care about folding either) for $189 (I have an FFL so I don't need to worry bout transfer fees.)

Are these plain jane wasr's from century worth a damm?...are the barrels chromed? any feed problems?

anybody got any experience with century stuff? (ya, I know how vepr's etc. are much better, and I DO plan to upgrade down the road, but I am just looking for a basic ak to plink at the range with now and $189 is pretty sweet for a "new" gun)

wasssup?

Jesse? guys????

thanks! Bob

Mine shoots great, 189 is hard to beat even if it is single stack.

That's about standard price for any lowcap AK. They are asrelible as any. One reason it's so cheapis that they can just sell them the way they're imported. If you want an even higher quality AK, though, consider a Saiga if you can find one. I figure if you're going low-cap, do it with style and have a classic stock. Plus, when you're tired of lowcaps, you can more easily convert it to hicap.

Thumbs up

I have the single-stack Romanian Romak 991. It's dead reliable, reasonably accurate, looks good. Yeah, the front sight is even straight!
But, after awhile, you do get to missing the 30-round mags!

The nice thing about low-cap AKs is, except for the milled ones, hi-cap mag conversions really are pretty easy.

Man, the VEPR line is nice and all, and accurate I'm sure, AND will probably outlast the likes of all the other AKs on the market, but have you ever hefted one of those? I got to shoot one at the range a while back, and I couldn't believe how much heavier it felt compared to my buddies Romy 991. It had a pronounced forward balancing, I guess from that heavy barrel. Nothing you couldn't get used to, but it was a definite departure from what I consider to be a normally VERY well balanced design. I see why RPKs have those big honking stocks now, to balance them out!

From this it follows that any people you meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

Oh so true. That's ultimately why I don't have one. If I did, it would probably have a long barrel and be in 223.

gettin em

Thanks all for the advice....I called century back yesterday, and in addition to the low cap military ak...I told em to drop a low cap dragunov ak in the box too......whoooo hoooo!

Now I wonder how hard it would be to mill the receiver to make it a high cap...anyone tried?

(yes I have a small mill and mini lathe)

When you say dragunov AK... you mean WASR-10 with dragunov stock, or a Romak III/PSL? I'm not even going to get started on how neither should be called a dragunov at all. Those have been falsely labeled Dragunov so much my head hurts.

Then the answer is YES, you can convert it to hi-cap with some simple dremel work. Make sure to keep your US parts compliant though.

Its super easy to convert to a hi cap and if you take your time doing it I think the mags fit better than those originally equipped with hi caps. No slop at all. Just go slow with the Dremel and check, grind, check again. Slowly!!!!
I threw a few hundred rounds downrange a couple of weeks ago with mine and I gotta say its pretty accurate for an AK. I was surprised with it.
And yes, I did make it compliant with the stupid stuff....jeeze, its still a firearm that goes bang with U.S. parts or foreign stuff. Stupid stupid stupid.
