| What is the deal with the AK-74?
They look really cool and I see them at decent prices. Are they worth the money? Is ammo hard to find? Is it more effective?

The AK-74 is that odd Russian round right? 5.45x39? It's a faster moving bullet with further range, Wolf is about the only maker of ammo for it(that I've found in about 3 minutes anyways LOL). Cheaper Than Dirt has the ammo, $130-$150 for a 1000 rounds. I do remember reading though that alot of the Russian troops either wanting to return to the 7.62x39 or did return to it, must like our troops are now with the .308. That round just didn't have the stopping power they needed/wanted, I think.

I like atlanticfirearms.com. THey know what to stock. I have seen a decent AK-74 at the store by my house for around the 500 range. It comes with a couple mags that are the cool smoke waffle style. They are different and I am known to get odd stuff. I read that they worked really well in Afghanistan and resulted in many kills. Not like I am going to go around shooting people with it.

Lets not get started on Zombies. Actually I'll send you a PM regarding them, kind of, well, you'll see. I'm just waiting for the day I get to take to the roof. I feel I've gone to far with my PM

Everyday I wake up and think today could be the day. I already have some lawn chairs and a cooler full of beer up there, just in case. One of those little hand-held TVs so I don't miss the The Simpsons.

The 5.45x39mm round has the advantages of being lower recoil than 223, loses less performance when used in a carbine length barrel (what it was designed for anyway), and using readily available mags that are hard to sell because the ammo isn't so common. The AK-74 is quite accurate compared to the AKM. Disadvantages are that the ammo is harder to find, more expensive than X39, and is being phased out worldwide.

I am about to sell mine, what would be a descent price to sell it at? I see them selling on gunboker for 500+, mine is romanian made if that makes any difference. If your wondering why would I sell an AK it is because I am going to get a milled AK and cann't get away with having both |

what kind of 74 is it. that could make the difference between a lower price and a high one. what did you buy it for? how old is it and how used is it??

If it is Romanian, it is likely a SAR-2 which is actually closer in pattern to the AKM than the AK-74. It's like an AKM in 5.54x39mm whereas an AK-103 is like an AK-74 in 7.62x39mm. If this all made no sense, basically there are a few design differences between the AKM and AK-74 besides just the cartridge.

You know that you can't have any of the new Russian rifles, right? Closest you can come is a modification of a Saiga rifle to AK-101,102,103,etc configuration in semi-auto only. The point of the AN-94 is extremely fast double-tap rate.

I've been lagging. I can be a slacker at times. In the process of looking for a new job, my current job is boring me.
