I Need A Red Dot For The Mak!!!

what should i consider when buying one...i bought a see through reciver cover with 1" scope mount...http://www.centerfiresystems.com/ind...ROD&ProdID=108
now what does the 1x24 thing mean? im not understanding this jargin... im just a little uneducated. i need a red/green dot that can work in cold weather, those should be nitrogen filled i belive, because im one of those guys that is going to bring his AK deer hunting this year... i wish you could bumpfire and aim at the same time:full: im actualy going to have to buy some expensive ammo...what is the best by the way? i need some help here guys...help me out here...

so i did some looking in the optics section and found a good websight...midsouthshootersupply.com has some good stuff. Im still wondering how the numerical thing works...i see things like, 1x23, 1x28, 3-9x40mm, 4-16x40mm, ect. I have the 1" rings on my AK, so how do i choose which scope fits on my rings???

ok with that said...ill go with the scout mount. now what kind of red dot should i get...i dont want a cheapy straped to my nice rifles, it will look like a wart, im the kind of guy that gets the best bang for the buck right away. i need something that can withstand harsh Minnesota winters and be operable in the damp weather without fogging up or falling apart. i may as well buy a good scope in the first place. can i swap the scope and mount between my AK and SKS??? someone please tell me what all the 1x23, 1x28, and so on's mean...id like to know before buying...thank you.

I said cheapy because the AK is a perfect gun just to keep the iron sights and keep it light. If you were going to scope it out I would put a red dot on, but nothing too much because a red dot scope isn't going to make too much of the difference at a medium range. It is perfect for quick target quisition, like center mass.

I like this one:
Just make sure you get the correct eye relief

There is no eye relief issue with a red dot.

I have a Millidot (two actually) and I like them.

They have 11 dot choices, etc.

However...they ranged from $69-89 new.

You can get cheaper but that's cost and quality as far as I am concerned.

THe reciever top cover doesn't securly fasten to the reciever, that is the factory design. After every shot is shakes around and there is nothing you can do about it. The aftermarket top covers are better at elimating SOME of this play, but certainly not enough to mount a scope and have it retain zero. The scout mounts don't move at all and will hold zero.

1x28 means 1x magnification (ie NO magnification) at 28mm diameter. Scopes with magnification might look like 4x30 for fixed power, or 3-9x40 for adjustable power.

If you're stuck on getting a red dot for it check out the BSA line at www.riflescopes.com
