Red face saiga 308

now im thinking about purchasing a 308 saiga. im wondering how much accuracy i would gain buy going with a longer barrel. this gun will just be used for going to the range as i dont hunt anymore. i don t need a high cap mag,but would like a pistol grip setup.the gun stores where i live have ridiculous prices so i dont support them.where would be a good place to contact?i would like a bipod also. any advice? thanks again everyone!

I prefer the 22" barrel. Many people have incredible accuracy with them using open sites. If you want to use a scope use a scout type mount, as the receiver flexes too much to be a good mounting point.

There are now High cap mags available as well as the original Factory 8 rounders.

The conversion to a pistol grip setup is straightforward, and lands you with a better trigger if you do the standard conversion.

forum.saiga-12.com has loads of info on this conversion. Some guy called called BattleRifleG3 has developed a line of customizeable wooden furniture for the Saiga rifles and shotguns. There are options out there for different handguards too, but if you like the factory handguard a buttstock and P-grip can be made to match pretty closely.

20rd. I think that's a good size for 308.

I don't make a combo for two reasons, the first of which is that I don't believe a p-grip is a good combination with the factory trigger. The other is that I've agreed with another fellow who has developed such a buttstock to send integrated buttstock requests his way and he'll hook me and a customer up with matching wood for a handguard for a stock.

The conversion is really much much simpler than you could possibly imagine, and you net yourself a better balance and a better trigger. Don't be afraid, just be informed, ie read up on it well and ask questions when you have them. This conversion is very forgiving of inexperience, all it requires is care and patience. I clocked my third conversion at 2hrs.

The idea is to learn everything you can before you take a tool to the gun, and from then on the only surprise will be how easy it is. Until then, the factory configuration isn't a bad one at all. Might as well step from that to the one you really want, without taking a baby step to a lesser configuration that will end up costing you a bit.

BRG3, where do you recommend getting one of these from? Any good sites online, or you think gun show?

Thanks.

They come where they come. Whatever you're comfortable paying for a 1.5 MOA or better full power 308 capable excellently reliable rifle.

It is not a QD or Quick Detach like a Harris would use. You can probably replace it w/ a QD post, though.

The Saiga stock retainer screw is threaded 10-32, same as most sling swivels. If you get one threaded all the way down (or thread one yourself) you shoudl have a great arrangement.

I could do one up for you if you wouldn't mind spending a few $$.

Recently I did an order for a fellow and screwed his sling swivel into a metal insert. Only problem was the sling swivel was too long and wasn't threaded far enough back. Exactly the problem you'd run into using one on a stock Saiga handguard. I ended up going out and buying a threading die set in order to complete it expediently and have it for future use. You can do it to, I just figured I'd offer since I just did the exact same thing.

what kind of accuracy are you getting out of it? i have about 5 more days till i get mine. yippie!i want to scope mine also, and im wondering if putting a target scope on it is a good idea.the sniper scopes are cool and im sure they work for what they are designed for but from what i understand at 300 m.they are for hitting a 1m target. im looking for bullseyes at whatever extreme range this rifle is capable of. i am going with the low profile reciever side mount and it seems a varmint/target scope would be a good idea. any suggestions? thanks so much everyone! p.s. BRG3 you seem like a smart guy i keep getting good advice from you . thanks
