Looks accurate. But is it?
The jist I have always got about AKs is that they are generally inaccurate unless some work is done. I don't own one though so I dont know.

Looks accurate - how does a gun "look" accurate?

An AKs accuracy is primarily related to the manufacturer. Modern commercial AKs are generally far more accurate than the 3rd world built AKs encountered around the world. A general rule of thumb is that the semi-auto AKs are more accurate than the full ones, but that doesn't mean there aren't any semi-auto lemons, and the current military AK-74 and AK-100 series are much more accurate than their predecessors.

A large problem with the AKs innacuracy is the fact that the reciever is as loose as it is, however if it was'nt so, then the rifle would be more prone to jamming a-la the AR platform of rifles.

With my MAK-90, I can bust pop cans at 75yards all day long using the open sights. And the Arsenal AK's can get 1"-1.5" groups. My brother in law has put a few 1000 rounds through his M4, and the only jamming problems he had were caused by those plastic mags. I've put about 500 rounds through my AR, and have yet to have a jam.

I would use the rail if I were you. A lot of the receiver cover mounts never work right.
