Whats The Difference? AK / SVD

I was looking on the internet at some gun pics. ( I am starting to really get into these old military firearms! ) I noitced a similarity. It appears to me that the SVD Dragunov & the AK's have the same action. Is this correct, or are my eyes playing tricks on me? I know the SVD fires a more powerful 7.62 x sumtin'other round. Is the SVD comprable to the .308?The Saiga is built on a AK action. You see where this is going, dont you.
(Future Saiga .308-Dragunov project)

Nope - the SVD, snayperskaya vintovka dragunova, and the AK - Avtomat Kalishnikova are completely different rifles. They share similar lines and aesthetics, but that's about it. The SVD uses an adjustable gas system, and I may be wrong, but I believe it operates more like an FAL or an SKS, with seperate gas piston and op rod configuration rather than the AK, where that's all one piece.

Also shoots 7.62x54R, which I feel is between 30-06 and 308 in performance.

I'm getting a Saiga 308 as a christmas gift, and I plan on doing something similar to what you're thinking up, i'm sure. Have you looked at the stocks BRG3 has been making for Saigas? That sort of stuff tends to get one daydreaming.

Tula pretty much hit it all on the head.

Even though this is an airsoft page, it is an excellent resource for comparing the different Dragunovs and the AK: Unconventional Airsoft

They even cover the non-Dragunov Dragunov, also known as the ROMAK-3/PSL. By the way, some Chinese 98's came in .308 Win, but also came in the 7.62x54R round, which, being a Mosin owner, is near and dear to my heart. ;-)

The Romak is a modified AK when the Tiger is true sniper rifle.

Now that's not really a fair thing to say. I mean after all, the M-24 is just a modified BDL. I think the true designation "sniper rifle" should come from it's role in the military. In this case, PSL/Romak 3s are sniper rifles, regardless of their inherent performance and heritage, and the Tigr is actually a commercial hunting rifle.
