| mounting options...
I've got a Saiga .308 headed my way and it came complete with a nice little 3-9x bushnell scope, unfortunately attached to a dust cover mount. BRG3 has mentioned the practicality of the forward scope mount attached to the rear sight, and I would love something like that with a long eye relief scope, since my preferred shooting method is both eyes open. But I'm miserly and I want to get some use out of the scope I'm getting in the deal first, and I don't have anything else suitable to strap it on. I'm not keen on keeping the dust cover mount, so what are my better options for mounting a conventional western style scope? B-Square makes a most interesting and sturdy looking design: B-Square: Rings & Mounts this one by leapers looks interesting: Deluxe Tactical Tri-Rail Mounts does anyone know how the triple tension screw setup works in comparison to the lever/clamp style? Then there are several versions of the clamp on mounts. I imagine one centered over the bore would be best for my scope. What are your experiences with scopes on AKs, especially ones chambered in high power calibres, like the Saiga 308 and the Romak 3s?

saiga 308: i have the high belarus mount and i like it fine there are pros and cons. it is pretty high off the barrel , but it doesnt shift at all. you can clean the gun without taking the scope off. you can eyeball bore sight it(a big plus to me). i had to shim the back of the weaver mount plate but that was easy.and i would strongly suggest you get some windage adjustable rings ,and locktite everything. overall i am very happy with it .p.s. it is centered over the barrel this is when i tried it on my wasr-10 it went on both rifles bombproof

How exactly do you eyeball boresight? I'm sure it's something deceptively simple and common sense, but I'm not getting it just trying to imagine it, lol. This is my new Saiga: ![]() ![]() Somehow my cat always knows exactly what's mine. Took it out to the range for a test and surprisingly, the scope's point of impact didn't shift once the whole time. Of course since the cheapest ammo I could find was Remington Core Lokt I didn't get to do a whole lot of shooting just yet.And I gotta say, recoil on the Saiga .308 is negligible! I'm used to long barreled Nagants, and shooting this thing was an absolute joy in comparison. I hear a lot of talk about the recoil of the Saiga Vs that of the M1a/M14; Cetme/G3; FAL... well if any of those are any tamer than a Saiga, they must be absolute DREAMS to shoot. No problems whatsoever with the trigger either. No gritty feel even with the bolt hold open device installed, and so little takeup in the first stage of the pull that it honestly feels like a single stage trigger. Just a short pull and a clean break.Overall, I am very glad I waited a couple of years to get what I wanted rather than breaking from the plan and going with the tempting Cetme, or other guns. Still want to work toward owning a DSA built FAL though. Some day...

ok. eyeball bore sighting, take the cover off remove bolt ,piston ect. put in bench rest . look down the inside of the barrel at your target. then without moving rifle look through the scope . adjust windage rings ect. until they are both pointing at the target.tighten everything ,put it back together. now you can finely adjust your scope, and get it dead on. i hoped this helped! happy shootin! yeah , i did a lot of reading before i bought my saiga . i was thinking about a cetme kit until i heard what a crapshoot it was getting a good one what with some parts metric some standard. so im glad i got this inexpensive reliable durable and fun to shoot rifle. too bad there is hardly any milsurp ammo anymore .good thing i just bought a reloader setup!!! may have to look at reloading too, i don't shoot often enough to justify it, but then it may justify shooting often, lol Nice idea with the eyeball boresighting, it was every bit as simple as I expected it, lmao. More incentive for me to get a good siderail mount.

you wont save any money but you will always have ammo! P.S. with the high scope mount anything that can rattle loose will, so locktite them screws!

The finish on the stock isn't very flattering either. The pictures turned out quite well for the rush job they were, I'm surprised. I like blued steel and walnut too, always have and always will. But this is definitely one of the more aesthetically pleasing AK configurations around. I want to strip the stock and forestock down and give them a nice finish that will bring out the grain the way it shows when the flash hits it.
