Yeah I learned about how steal workers gauge steel by overhearing them on the job. Im an electrician and were the first ones in and the last to leave, so I get to learn alot about other trades by watching them. Most guys on the job also like to brag about what they do so anyquestions I have are usualy answerd with great detail. It's funny though I hardly ever get asked about how my trade works.

you got a point there meatloaf when i worked jobs i really don't remember anyone asking an eletricion about thier job. but everyone else was always asked about how you do this and that about thier job.i guess people don't really care how the lights come one just as long as they come on huh. i always talked to all the workers and tried to find out about all the jobs but to me eletricity was just to much to mess with now i can and i enjoy messing with 12 volts systems but thats it. but the big a/c current there is to much of that one wire two wire three wire stuff and if you hook up one wire too many you got 240 instaed of 120 or something like that .

i was working a job in alabama (atlantic marine ship yard) i stayed at the shoneys inn for a few months. there was a eletrician that was almost 7' tall built . well one day the alarm went off on the ship and the medic came a running low and behold i walked up and there was the big old eletritian laid out on the ground . he was stripping some wire and the knife slipped and he stabbed himself in the bysep or right under the shoulder. well when the big guy seen the blood he pissed in his pants and passed out.lmao i found out about the peeing part from him a day later when he told me in the break room the rest of the drilling ship found out from me later on that day.lol.

there was anothere electriian and this was the same job he had takin his girl friend with him on the job as a helper (she looked good.. i mean really good) well one day we was on the rig floor and there was about 15 of us and all of a sudden there was a ripping sound we didn't pay no mind to it but the lady thought that she ripped her pants. she pretty much had the rig floor shut down while everyone looked over her but just to make sure her pants didn't rip. and when i mean look it over i mean she bent over so we could make sure her pants didn't rip and she had on some tite pants too!man-o-man! it was funny 15 guys lined up to lok at a ladys but on the rig floor of a drilling ship.lol

and last but not least this goes to the dumest eletrictian helper . this was the same job and the same rig floor but not the same eletrical crew. ok here it goes there was some eletrical work to be done on the crown and the eletritian told hi helper to climb the derrick with the bucket of tools tied around his waist or back . well this helper was just way to smart for that because just the day before he saw how they was lifting a guy up to the top with the air tugger so the kid thinks why not???he hooks up the bucket with tools in it to the tugger and turns the handle and away it goes .now it's woring great until it reachesabout 30'in the air then the bucket picks up speed because the cable pulling down is now heavier than the load it has on it . the bucket smashs the top of the crown at a speed of about 25mph and screw drivers crecent wrenches and any thing else a electrician uses comes flying back down to the rig floor. for the next few days that poor kid was ragged out.

man the good old days of being able to work it was so much fun(and deadly)

Good stories, in a way im glad everyone thinks electricity is to messy to deal with job security. Also dont be affraid of that weenie 120v it doesnt hurt that bad, do be affraid of 277v that feaken hurts! Put two of those together and you get 480v. Get hit by that and you better hope the breaker is new and works well.

well from what i have been told it's better to get hit with a 240 or higher line than a 120 because the bigger line is more likely to throw you off rather than glue you to it like the 120. i was juised up when i was younger by a shorted out washer and it glued me to the machine . my mom came up behind me and threw on some gloves and turned the machine off. i was bare foot too she had on shoes. i guess if you ain't got a good heart your gonna be dead anyway so i just stay away from all a/c power.lol. if i gotta put in a light fixture around my house i don't flip the one breaker i turn the main breaker and kill the whole house.

You can get locked up on both. 277,480, is still considerd low voltage anything under 600 volts. Anything higher just blows off body parts.

I have been shocked too many times to count. I have had 220, 120, and then in cars I have most of my electric current knowledge. I have gotten seriously hurt by spark plug wires. bad burns in the palm of my hand. Then the car battery will burn you as well. I know people who are like aww it's only 12v but if you rest your arm on the positive terminal then touch metal with the hand on the same arm it will burn the S*&T outta you in a second. Nothing like being a mechanic. The spark plug thing happened before i knew any better though. I heard this tick tick tick noise near the exhaust manifold and then reched down cause I thought I saw something and oh I saw something alright. It was the ARC of 50,000v spark plug wire. when I grabbed it I had a hard time letting go cause everytime it sent current thru my hand would tense up. I would say I got about 6 or 7 good jolts before I got my hand outta there. I was 16 full of piss and vinegar then so I shrugged it off.

Worse I've ever been nailed by was 700VDC, worse I've ever seen was a young fellow killed by 288VAC @ 450Hz. He hadn't properly secured the power to a high frequency radar circuit (didn't follow all the tagout rules) and someone in CIC lit off the circuit not knowing he was working on it. Mine was I was making live power adjustments to a motor field excitation circuit (Had my safety man conected to me by a rubber strap to pull me off in case I got lit up). I actually felt quite fortunate it was just 700VDC because in order to reach the rheostats to make the adjustments my forearm was laid directly over a bank of 6 Pentatron vacuum tubes all charged to 5000VAC, and in getting yanked off that circuit none of those tubes broke (whew)
But it was still time!

She's from Texas so that means she likes guns just not as much as me. She claims that my Colt 45 is hers, she refers to it as the little gun (compared to my scary black rifles). Shes a perty good shot with it too wich is amazing because she's blind as a bat. She cant see a street sign untill its right over head, and she never wears her glasses. Oh well by the way shes going to let me buy my freinds berreta psx4 (not sure if the name is correct) carbine 40 cal. I get to buy three guns a year.
