Finally ordered a stock for my Mak-90

I'll post pictures when I get it on, but I ordered an original Romanian metal side folding stock, along with a basic black pistol grip to replace my thumb-hole stock. I'm going to leave the forward wood on for now until I put an Ultimak mount on later. Anyways, then I also ordered seom green paracord that I'll wrap the stock in. Should look pretty good.

Seeing as how you said it was "original Romanian", just make sure you're still legal on the 922(f) crud regarding 'enough USA-made parts'. Not sayin' you didn't already think of it, just wanted to remind ya in case it slipped yer mind.

Oh... and I expect pics.

Legality overview by a moderator here. The 922R affects imported guns only, or ones made from imported parts.

Actually I know what the 922 stuff is, I was just being funny .... My stock and grip should be here on Tuesday, and I think I might order one of those UTG handguards if I find another couple good reviews on it.

UTG? That's an airsoft company dude. It will never hold up to a real AK.

Check it out for yourself, people are saying this is actually a really nice system for an AK.

Ok whtever pred. But I'm not going to put airsoft parts on my guns. It's just common sense.

LOL... If a product is good, and the product works, I don't care who makes it.

People have tested it on airsoft guns. Not real, bullet firing, recoiling firearms. It's going to shake loose, I would bet money.

Maybe, but I've seen and read reviews of people who have it on AK's, they say it works great.

How much will it cost to get one made for REAL ak's? Shouldn't be much more.

Aye. Pred has the rights of it. UTG makes "tacticool" accessories for both airsoft and regular firearms. If it were a composite piece I'd be a bit concerned, but given what it is, it should work fine. Not really all that different from the ultimAK stuff and what I've seen of that is rock solid.

Well, I'm halfway done with my Mak-90. I ran to Lowe's to get some stuff to rig(not really) the pistol grip to the receiver. The old grip screw and nut I ordered the first time were both messed up. So the stock didn't fit as tight as it should, and that caused the stock to crack. So basically I picked up the same size screw only about a 1/2" longer(since the Chinese screws don't fit right in the Romanian/Arsenal grips), a washer large enough to cover the gap, but no so large to cause problems, and a self securing nut(or whatever there called). Worked perfect, besides firing the weapon, everything clears just fine. I also picked up a 1/2 5mm screw and a 1" 5mm screw for the Romanian side folder I ordered. Should have pictures up by tomorrow night.

I put a set of UTG handguards on my M-4 from aim surplus for $60(AIM UTG 2-Piece Carbine Length 4 Rail Handguard w/ Rail covers UTG 2-Piece Carbine Length 4 Rail Handguard w/ Rail covers), they are rock solid. They are NOT plastic - they are metal (aluminum maybe). They lock together with four bolts. It is a quality product worth well more than $60 - I don't care if Toy-R-Us made them. I don't know about the AK version, but I would not hesitate to give them a shoot based off my experience with the M-4 handguards.

I'm seriously thinking about ordering one and a forward grip to see how it works. I'll wait until I get my stock on though and see how I like it.

The aluminum quad rails from UTG work just fine, my friend bought one for his AR and it has no problems, I bought one for my project AK build and can forsee no problems on that rifle other than I will probably use some threadlock on the final install.

I did run into a problem putting it on my Norinco Mak-90 however, they use a heavier barrel on them and the mount wouldn't slide over it, might have possibly made it fit if I was so determined but I didn't buy the mount for the Norinco and I prefer to leave it the way it is.

I'll post a few good pics of it mounted to the project barrel so you can check it out.

BTW I bought mine from from an actual gun parts dealer, not a toy store!

This last pic shows the shim (one of several included) that keeps the quad rail from walking front to back, it has a hole if you want keep your cleaning rod.

If it fits or you can make it work , I guarantee you'll like it. It is far and away better than any of those plastic foregrips with the rails attached which are the norm. They come with a full set of those hard rubber rail covers too!

Isn't the ban lifted? My gun dealer told me not to worry about it, because even if the ban went into effect again my guns would be grandfatherd in. Is this true or not?

922(f) is not part of the "Brady Bill Ban" that sunset. It is in regards to importing firearms and the requirements of legally owning said firearms. I believe that imported firearms that were brought in after it went into effect must have half of their parts be US-Made.

I'm not 100% sure on that, but I'll bet someone here can clarify it better than I.

I have that same rail. I like it a lot. No problems and very affordable.
