Unhappy such a dissapointment! saiga mod gone bad!

since there is no such thing as a how to on the .308 saiga i thought i could do it by watching the 223 7.62x39 instructions.
WRONG! they are two different things
so now i have a bench full of parts and no gun. the photos jibe for awhile and then things stop going together. bummer! no gunsmith around here either

I'm sure you'll be fine billy. I thought I broke my SKS a while back when doing some modding, but it turned out ok.

I'll try to look around for info also.

Gun abuse!

You sir shall surely burn in the fires of hell for breaking that nice gun!!!
However if my observations and experience of this site so far are correct help is just around the corner.
I figure almost everyone that enjoys guns, experiences that heart wrenching moment in working on thier guns when suddenly "assembly being a reversal of the dissasembly procedure" seems like more than a well worn cliche.
Rest easy Billy great minds are no doubt at work!!!
Regards.

Rich
i had a hankerin for a pile of black metal.
really i wanted to convert it to a pistol grip and t-6 buttstock so i could legally use a 20 rnd. mag.
i have done so but now i have....
no safety

no bolt hold open (which isnt that big of a deal but it would be nice)

and i dont know where exactly i am supposed to remove material from the g-2 hammer so that didnt get installed.

i couldnt find pics anywhere on the web.for the .308 conversion.

and there are 2 springs which i cannot find a place for .
i have my wasr-10 open side by side with it but they are different.

here are pics of the springs .
they are just on the post. i dont know what they are supposed to do.

i wanted to do this with it today

maybe im just retarded and am lucky to be alive.....just wandering through life with a fools luck.
maybe a normal person can do this in an hour?

i just ordered the ak retaining clip.
theres another U.S. part!
i think im getting a handle on this.
we will just see.......

I clocked myself consistently at 2 hours after several practices.

Relax - don't get emotional or impatient. Saiga conversions are actually very hard to screw up.

What I haven't seen so far is a clear description of what you did and where it went wrong. With that information I should be able to help.

The most important thing is not to freak out and do anything rash to or with your gun.

Doin' the old Mod Squad Blues. Happens to the best of us. Maybe you just aren't holding your tongue right. Or maybe your eyes are a bit too crossed. Adjust tongue, look closly. What doesn't look the same as before you took it apart? Is the safety in right position catching what it should catch? Hammer cocked when safety went in? Interior of the stocks EXACTLY identical? Did you try the stock maker's site?
As they say in Japan, "Rotsa ruck!"

If spring installation is the worst of your problems, you're in pretty good shape.
1. Did the hammer not fit in? If not, shave a little bit off the sides of the cylindrical section until it does. I've never had this happen to me but others have.
2. The axis pin retainer spring should have its long section riding on the underside of the trigger pin and on top of the hammer pin. This is generally accomplished by installing the hammer and its springs first, and then pushing down on the axis pin retainer spring when putting the trigger and trigger axis pin in.
3. The bolt hold open spring requires the bolt hold open to be useful for anything. Either reinstall the bolt hold open or remove the spring.
One thing I do not recommend is firing the rifle with a Russian hammer and US trigger and disconnector. The specs may be different enough to not hold back the hammer 100% of the time that it should be. Use that matching G2 hammer.

NO. Turn it 180 degrees about the axis of the pins. The coil should go around the trigger axis pin.

ok.... which one of these pics?

im going to guess that it is the 2nd pic.
here goes nuthin

this is the part that took me hours to do .
the springs!

how do you hold the hammer in position while looking to see if it is lined up correctly while holding a punch while tapping the punch with a hammer?

ok i am going to drive 3 hours and give it to a gunsmith. these pins will not line up .
two men couldnt hold it together to drive those simple pins in.
either they arent lined up on one end or another.
slave pins dont work because as soon as the slave gets driven out the whole thing springs loose.
i have literally tried this maybe 50 times... until my fingers are sore
