I bought mine about 6 months ago, it will shoot Wolf hollowpoints, but they tend to jam evry 4-5rounds, either the edge of tip catches on bottom of chamber opening or the shell is too big and doesnt enter chamber all the way. Winchester FMJ's shoot just fine, the cheap Winchester FMJ reloads shoot fine as well, and my friend, who has more money than even I would know what to do with, went and bought out all the Winchester reloads from Midway, his whole truck bed was full in canteens. He has a WASR-10 with wood stock, wood grip, wood forestock, and wood gas chamber; mine is underfolder with Tapco synthetic parts including gas chamber, forestock, pistol grip and trigger. We shoot em evry day, same number of rounds thru each gun and then clean/inspect after we're done to compare the wear & tear, so 500 rounds each gun a day, anyone wanna guess how long they'll last? and what part will go *poop* first? This should be interesting :P

If it isn't entering the chamber all the way, I'd first check the chamber for built up crud. Look for black specks on the chamber walls maybe? If you've been shooting the green colored clear or lacquer coated Wolf ammunition. it is possible that it needs to be thoroughly cleaned. It normally happens to U.S. rifles, due to better and much tighter tolerances. But, the clear or lacquer coating on that Wolf ammo, can tend to burn off as it gets hot, and stay in the chamber sticking the the walls of the chamber. I would clean the hell out of it, and try some brass ammo for a few hundred rounds. If it works fine, then go back to that green Wolf stuff and see what happens. If it happens again, the odds are it is the ammo and that coating on it. Also, Wolf ammo isn't known for the greatest quality. Although those Eastern Bloc country rifles truly eat it up. I based what I have on your statement of every 4 or 5 rounds this happens. G-Meister

Actually the wolf ammo is what i first shot, then i thought that maybe there was some leftover cosmoline or something in the chamber, then someone told me that brand new guns dont have cosmoline cuz they aren't setup to be stored long time, they are made 'now' not 40+ yrs ago, so other than that, i dunno....I cleaned it very well, but the back of chamber has somewhat almost right-angle edge all around chamber and someone told me to take and get a smith to file down the bottom edge so the tip edge of hollowpoints won't catch on it, sorta making an entry ramp for them, FMJ's still work fine, but havent tried Wolf FMJ's. Buddy next door uses Wolf hollow points all day long in his SKS's, think they are chinese and from what i've heard the chambers on them are slightly larger anyways, if not by .0001". If so, that's one good thing about chinese made things :P

I checked that with a small flashlight down the barrel and looking down the gas block. The barrel isn't straight, but it looks close enough. I'm going to seal the 4 holes drilled on the sides of the gas block. I have seen several AKs with no holes, so increasing pressure that way might help. | |

I got a WASR-AK47 for Christmas this year. It came with 2, 30 round clips, and a sling. There was also a basic cleaning kit. The cost for this item, new in the box, was $299.oo. I got a 1000 round case of WOLF ammo for it as well. Cost; $199.00 I haven't shot it yet, it's too fur freeze`n cold here right now with two feet of snow on the ground. I have a SKS as well. I'll let you know how it goes this spring! |

Alright, I just got a Romanian AK. On a website that I found it said it was called a Romanian SAR-1. Is that the same as what we're talking about here? That said, I have not fired mine yet. I did however, shoot my friends that got his a day earlier, from the same guy, same damn thing basically. Initially I found that it was having some complications chambering the round. The entire action of chambering and ejecting seemed a bit rough. Then again he did get the display and is a lot rougher then mine. I made the guy show me all that he had. I'm going to shoot mine this weekend. I'm in the military and as a libricant I've been using Gunzilla but I think I'll have to go with something thicker with this weapon. Could you guys just tell me a little about it? I'm feeling pretty good about mine. It just seems to have a smooth action(when I get some thicker lubricant) and is just overall very clean. |
