| Registered User | Svt-40 Russian??? I have a ww2 Svt 40 (7.62x54r) which shooting wise is pretty comparable to the Ak 47 but i have only been able to find 10 round mags, but i have heard that they have bigger capacity mags. Does anyone know about this or where I can find one??? |

| Senior Member | I'm not an expert on the subject, but I've never seen a larger capacity mag. But that's a nice rifle!

| Super Moderator ![]() | The only thing it and the AK have in common are that they're made in Russia. If you're looking to shoot it like an AK I'm sure there will be many folks willing to trade an AK and some ammo for that rifle as long as it's in good unmodified shape.

| Senior Member | According to a book published in Europe 10 yrs ago there was a 15 rd mag for the AVT 40 - the select fire version, shows photos of it. I have yet to find anyone who has ever heard of such! I have never heard of any after marked mags larger than 10 rd. Why do you want a larger capacity mag - you like to shoot the hell out of it w/o reloading and thus quickly burn it up??? The SVT 40 was NOT intended for mass volume fire! If this is what you like, buy a semi AK and quit thinking about ruining your SVT! Sarge |

| Senior Member | The SVT-40 is somewhat similar to the SKS in that it's semi-auto and in the action, but uses the 7.62x54R round, as does the Mosin Nagant and the Druganov SVD/PSL/ROMAK-3. If I recall correctly, it was supposed to replace the Mosin Nagant as a semi-auto sniper rifle, but had feeding/function issues with the rimmed round. Apparently they solved that by the time they came out with the Dragunov SVD and it's variants. As for higher capacity guns with the x54R round, you're going to have to find yourself an PKM, but they're not cheap and you'll have to find a receiver for it: Romanian PKM Parts Kit, 7.62x54R For some more neat pics of it: Modern Firearms - Kalashnikov PK / PKS / PKM / PKMS machine gun And for an awesome video of it being fired:
