Good Deal?

Ok, so being new to AKs and all, I'm not as up on the ammo prices as I should have been. So here's the deal: 700 rounds for $113. Should I take it or leave it? It's in one of those tins you need to crack open with the supplied can opener.

If it's 7.62x39, grab it fast...
If it's 5.45x39, that's about the going rate, but still a good deal.

Cool, this is that Hotshot stuff, too.

I'll be grabbing one of the remaining two cans when I get paid on Friday. Thanks!

Wish I had the cash to do it. I can pull one, but not both. I considered getting all three earlier. Got a buddy to buy one of them. LOL!

Or, if it is corrosive, just clean it like a mosin nagant.
  • Rinse with water (preferably warm/hot and/or soapy and/or ammonia-added) to rinse out the salts. Plain old water will do, but the other additives help; the first two help with the salts, the third with the copper-fouling.
  • Run dry patches down barrel until dry.
  • Now you have two choices: A)Run a patch with oil on it down the barrel and clean at home. or B) Clean with bore solvent (such as Hoppe's No. 9) and then oil the barrel.
Personally, I clean it all the way at the range, as long as I have time to do so. Especially since the barrel's already warm and it comes out nice and clean that way.

I treat all my ammo as if it's corrosive, that way I'm never surprised.

Someone peeled one of the last two cans open and the boxes claim the ammo is non corrosive. I am usually a stickler about that (especially with the ammo for my precious K31) but try to keep the guns clean anyway. Don't always succeed, but I do try! LOL!

Anyway, as an update, I managed to lug one of these tins home tonight. Keeping it sealed until I am ready to hit the range. When next payday rolls around, if the other tin is still with us, I may lug that one home, too.
