what make a ak74 an ak 74

what are the differances between the ak 47 and ak 74? is it just the caliber? was at the P.R.O gun show again.(there once a month here) and there was what was labeled as an romanian ak74 for $365 laying there next to an what was labeled as an ak47 for the exact same price the only difference between the to rifle i could tell was the caliber, and that the bayo lug was grownd off of the 74 and the 47 had a flash hider. other than that they looked identical. please explain. going to go back an buy an ak of some kind tomarrow.

As you already know.... the ak47 is 7.62mm the ak74 is 5.45. What you're looking at in the ak74 sounds like a WASR-2, Romanian. They come in single stack mags, with the bayo-lug ground off, and no flash hider. Some were made to accept double stack mags, such as mine, but were originally single stack mag rifles. I couldn't guess what the ak47 is. It could be any number of different variations of the ak.

you were right it was an wasr 2 and i bought it today! looks great, and came with 1 year warrenty, and a box of girl scout cookies! so im happy. and with the 5.45x39 ammo i can acualy aford to shoot the gun! will post pics later right now im waiting for a buddy to get here then it off to the range!

is 5.45 cheaper than 7.62 now i thought it was the other way around?
