Well, if you purchased the Accuracy Arms .50Beowolf upper, then the bolt would transfer over, as it's a rebated rim that uses the 7.62x39 boltface.

I'm thinking along this line...

Pre-Ban 16&#034 CAR 7.62x39 A2 Upper, Bayonet Lug, A2 Flash Suppressor OUT OF STOCK M&A Parts, Inc.

But I'd be interested in hearing out what you were talking about.

stitchclimber, I apologize, I was typing from memory and knew it was A--- Arms and mis"spoke"; it's actually Alexander Arms: Alexander Arms: .50 Beowulf®
And MidwayUSA has 'em: MidwayUSA - Alexander Arms AR-15 Overmatch Upper Assembly with Bolt Carrier Assembly 50 Beowulf 1 in 19" Twist 16" Matte and 7-Round Magazine

Since the link you posted is "out of stock", here's a few options for that 7.62x39 upper:
MidwayUSA - DPMS Upper Assembly AR-15 A2 7.62x39mm Russian 1 in 10" Twist 16" Chrome Moly Matte Pre-Ban
MidwayUSA - DPMS Upper Assembly AR-15 A2 7.62x39mm Russian 1 in 10" Twist 20" Chrome Moly Matte
MidwayUSA - Olympic Upper Assembly AR-15 A3 Flattop with Bolt Carrier Assembly 7.62x39mm Russian 1 in 12" Twist 16" Chrome Moly Matte

So what would be the advantage of using a .50 beowulf bolt carrier?

Is an AR in 7.62x39 even practical? I'm thinking of buying a DPMS AR-10 in .308, if I did that there's really no reason for me to build an AR in 762x39 then... just brainstorming.

The .50 Beowulf bolt carrier IS the 7.62x39 bolt carrier. That's what I was trying to explain. It uses the same boltface, so you can use that carrier for the .50B if you buy the 7.62x39 upper and carrier.

I only mentioned the .50B because of that fact, since if you bought the 7.62x39 upper, you could dual-purpose the boltcarrier for it as an option later on.

Now, honestly, if you're really wanting the 7.62x39, I'd stick to the higher end AK's, but that's just personal preference. But, I also like the AR-10 in .308. But, if it's .308 you're looking for, check out the CETME and the FAL first (both have forums in the Military section of G&G).

gotcha.

does the cetme have the long range accuracy as the DPMS .308's have?
I know that the AR platform is extremely accurate, I don't know much about the cetme's or FAL's

Sorry for thread jacking.

They're Battle Rifles; made to stand up to harsh conditions and engage targets out to 300-400 meters.

If you're wanting "long range", as in 600+ meters, then you're probably going to be looking at either a bolt-action gun or a higher caliber.

I am not sure what the AR-10's accuracy is out to that range as I don't have any experience with it other than it's the AR I'd buy if I would purchase one. I only suggest taking a look at the CETME and FAL so that you can get an idea of other .308-chambered semi-auto firearms out there and decide if the AR-10 is what works best for you.

yeah from what I understand some of the DPMs AR-10's are pretty dang accurate out to 500-700 meters right out of the box.

Ruger 7.62x39

Back in the 90s Ruger made a SS Mod 77 version in 7.62x 39 and mine would consistently shoot inch or under at 100 yds with just about anything.

May be able to find one if you look hard enough
