Why are AK vertical fore ends canted forwards?

im hoping to get an AK type rifle soon, I put in an order with one company, and Im waiting to get a response.

Ive kinda over spent my yearly gun budget already but with the next election coming around Id Figured Id get all the stuff i want now while I still can....Hey ya never know.

anyhoo,

I was wondering why most AKs that have a vertical foregrip whether it be a solid piece built into the handguard (like the romanian G specs) or a rail mounted add on one, are all canted bottom end to the front as opposed canted backwards towards the magazine well like on so many other firearms.

Is this for recoil issues or something else?

Thanks!

Tough to say . . . .

but the famous Luger Pistol had what was supposed to be the best grip angle of any firearm in history which was 105 degrees.

A straight or back-angled foregrip would make it more difficult to 'rock' the banana-shaped magazines into place. It's that simple.

Well yea its for the recoil..You dont need a vertical forgrip on them..and you mostly see them on the romanians, where its part of the stock. Its nice to have one but you defently dont need it

I actually just got a refurbished WASR10 with a tapco G2 trigger group, and fusion polymer stock and fore end. the fore end has a lower cover that you can take off exposing an accessory rail.

One of my friends that goes out shooting with me was born with this... well I dont even know what you call it, but basically hes right handed and he has some small but big enough to make a difference extra bone growth in his left arm near his elbow or somewhere. He was born that way.

Its nothing that you can see, hes a pretty muscular guy too, but basically he cant rotate his lower fore arm like when you would hold a rifle. If you dont know what I mean roll up your sleeve on your support arm and hold your arm out like you were holding a rifle. Now twist your arm back and forth like you were transitioning from a vertical fore grip to a rifle without one...

Yea he cant do that. He can only hold his arm out like if he was holding a handgun.

So hence why I just bought an inexpensive vertical grip that I can slap on the bottom so he can shoot it too. He tried to join the marines but they wouldnt let him in because of it.

If you go the "tactifool " route there is a down grip that mounts to your bottom rail at an angle, tilts out to one side or the other so it doesn't interfere with the mag. I can't remember who carries it but they're out there.

I think he's asking about the 'traditifool' configuration.

i was just asking why they were canted the other way around lol. I like verticle grips, and i needed to get one anyways for when my friend shoots (see above post I made).

I dont know why some people are so against them. if its more comfortable to shoot for in someones personal preference then why not.

Kinda like when I added a collapse able stock to my shotgun. You wouldnt by a car you couldnt adjust the seat in, so why buy a gun u cant adjust the parts to fit you as well.

Exactly my opinion. Some people like them, and some people don't. Neither group should hold the other in contempt because they like something else. I find it completely ridiculous and childish. Anyway, I'm not sure about the cant other than it would help with reloading. It isn't really uncomfortable either.

Like BD said, it is to provide clearance for reloading 30 rd magazines.

The forward pistol grip is from A.R.M.S. It goes on a rail with a lever. I love it. On the other side is a levered A.R.M.S. sling swivel.
