While it is feasible, I cannot say I have seen or heard of such a thing.

If the AK he's talking about is a Siaga 12 he can shoot buckshot all day long. Otherwise...probably not.

Steve, CCI seems to make shotshells in every caliber known to mortal man, from .22 LR to .44 Magnum. I suppose it's possible they skipped the 7.62x39, but it's just as likely they didn't. And of course someone could have taken a 7.62x39 blank and modified the daylights out of it to turn it into a shotshell.

What's more likely is the guy fired a Saiga shotgun and isn't smart enough to tell the difference between a Saiga and an AK-47.Therefore, in his mind he "shot buckshot out of an AK-47."

Kind of doubt it

Doesn't make much sense. Shot from a rifled bore moves out with a doughnut pattern and the center hole expands with distance.

If he did this perhaps you could ask him to bring a sample cartridge by your home.

The only input I can give is this. Taurus makes a handgun that shoots both .45 colt/long colt, same thing, and .410 shotshell. I would think that if it could be put in a cartridge that the AK could cycle, I suppose it might work or as SwedeSteve say, might be feasible.

As far as heard of it, no I've never heard of it until now. As far as trying it, no, I've never tried it.

I'll leave it up to the experts or those getting paid to do this stuff to do. I'll gladly stand on the sidelines and watch. Then if it seems to work and becomes something in the future, I'll probably still stick to passing on it as if I wanted a firearm that shoots buckshot, I'd of just bought a shotgun, not an AK...

Well you know they converted Enfields to .410 !! So it is, as GM says, feasible. But I think there would be too many mechanical hurdles to make it worthwhile. A snakeshot round with a plastic "bullet" probably wouldn't feed reliably (most of those are for revolvers, right??).

MagSafe makes a 7.62x39mm cartridge, which is loaded with a "prefragmented" round.... in other words a scored plastic bullet/casing filled with birdshot. Not worth the money.
