Looking to buy my first AK

I'm looking into buying my first AK-47 soon. The local hardware store(the only place in town with an FFL) has a few International Arms Romanian WASR-10s for sale.

The tag says $616.29. Does this sound fair to you guys? I mean, it looks pretty decent but if it's not worth the money I'd like to hear some other suggestions.

They will order any gun I want that they can get for me, so if there is a better gun for the money, by all means recommend it.

Thanks!

^What he said. Except, I'd go with a Saiga myself.

I was looking at the "Arsenal AKs under $500" thread, clicked the link, and stumbled upon this beauty. It doesn't have the wood stocks that I liked, but I really think the picatinny rails are a good option to have.

That is a really good rail system too. The Arsenals are converted Saiga Legions. Can't go wrong with Arsenal.

That is a good price for a fully converted Saiga 7.62

Yes get that one.

If I were not invested already in MAK-90's I'd be getting one of those they are a great buy.

Heck, I may still get one, or two sometime in the future.

Then, if I choose to, are the options there to switch out the stock and rail system with wood?
Like I stated before, I like the Romanian look, but I'm ALWAYS buying for function first.

Edit: Since(I think) it said the system and stock were USA made, I'd have to find USA made wood to remain 922r compliant, right?

You can switch out to wood no problem. Just dont use Chinese furniture as its made for 1.5mm receivers. Theres other ways to remain 922r compliant. Crapco trigger is 3 parts. You can use USA magazines for another 3 parts just make sure if your magazines are part of your comliancy ALL your magazines are compliant too. USA muzzle attachment is 1 part. If you really had to you could swap out your gas piston for 1 compliant part. Using a USA trigger group with USA mags would be enough.

Heres a nifty little tool you can use to calculate your compliancy

I'll be going down soon and having them order it for me.
One last question: What is the difference between Warsaw Pact and NATO stocks?
The NATO is $20 more. So is it "better"?

NATO stock length is 1 1/2" longer than Warsaw. It really depends on the shooter. Some people prefer the longer length of pull. I, myself prefer the Warsaw. I like my guns to snug up when Im aiming. Warsaw works good for me and Im 6'

I'll probably go with the Warsaw and it's always swappable if I don't like it.

I would say that the NATO length is more suited for people who prefer to not put their nose on the top cover

I actually like having my face close so I too would say the WARSAW length, even though I screwed up and have a NATO length stock on mine :O

I have special dust covers to allow for my nose to rest upon them. They were custom made by a local gun smith here locally. If your nose needs a rest let me know I can have him get in contact with you for fitting.

if your gonna swap the parts anyway just get a reg saiga then convert it with wood yourself. you will save about $300 if you do that
