| Australian and ARgentine 308 i need some opinions on these two types of ammo. the Argentine is 144gr and i believe the Aussie is 143gr?? are these 2 rounds considered Nato spec since it aint 147gr? how do they shoot? dirty? accurate? reliable? which is better. i need some 308 ammo asap for a upcoming shooting trip. was looking for portugese but it hard to find nowadays. |

| Hunting? All the ammo you listed is FMJ - not good hunting fodder at all. Most 7.62X51 shooters I've been reading really like the Aussie stuff, of all the milsurp ammo. At the last gunshow, I lucked into some Spanish Santa Barbara 7.62 ammo - the perfect stuff for my CETME! Venezuelan CAVIM ammo is good - very accurate in my Chopo. El Salvadoran (100 rounds loose in a cardboard box) is very good shooting, but a mixed bag - multiple years and headstamps, and some is cruddy looking. These last two are not NATO spec - but they shoot good. I wouldn't use any of it for hunting though - most places outlaw the use of FMJ for hunting also.

| i've dealt with 308 Cavim, absolute junk. kept jamming in my ds arms Fal. but my M1 eats it tho. still crappy ammo. santa barbara is great stuff... NICE hot high pressure rounds. i love shooting it thru my 16inch Fal with muzzlebreak. i call it my Assh*le gun. i really enjoy shooting it when i am sitting next to obnoxious A-holes:-) i usually want to stick with 147gr Nato spec ammo for zeroing purposes. might give the Aussie ammo a try. and i did say, upcoming Shooting Trip, NOT hunting. yeh, i know the laws too. |

| Oops. My bad - misread the 'shooting'. I'm wanting to try the Aussie, but haven't found it locally yet - I'll probably have to order it. There seems to be two batches of CAVIM - the older stuff had a tar sealer, and gums up a CETME/HK rifle's fluted chamber - nasty stuff. The later type, which I had been using, wasn't any dirtier than most and shot really well. I'd love to take my Chopo out west, and try some PD shooting - no worries about bullet type there! Ditto on the AH-factor! I once had a hunter blazing away with a belted-magnum rifle with the BOSS on the muzzle, right next to me. So I popped a 20-round mag into my CETME (with the Century 'Muzzle Blast Enhancer') and banged off the entire mag. He packed up and left.
