| I buy all my rifles from my local mom & pop store however the other day I did buy some .243 from Wal-Mart for less than half of our local gun shop. |

| I personally try and stretch every dime I dedicate to my gun and archery addiction as far as I can. We have a lot of local dealers in my area, some good and honest, some will drain your wallet any way they can. As far as getting ammo for less, I'm all for it. I don't think running out is an option, but it is easy to run out of money.

| I know this thread has been off and on for months now, but I still got a kick out of reading through it. I gotta say, I can only giggle at people who get so PO'ed at a company for offering the best prices on a lot of stuff, from groceries to clothes to knives and even ammo. It's like I can just see them....."Dagnabbit! Your price on a box of ammo is $5 bucks cheaper than down the street! How DARE you!?!?" I really don't get it. I've been in business a couple of times in my life and understand that high volume gets you a lot more profit than high prices. I had a coffee shop a few years ago and after we built up a demand, Joe Muggs and Starbucks both moved into town. It was scary at first, but guess what? The big guys charged 20% more for their espresso drinks than we did, and our business didn't suffer a loss at all. Their volume goals were based in locations built, ours was based on retail sales, and in that market, we won, but they won too because they spread their names and products into the suburbs and rural areas. Whatever, none of us went out of business because of an inability to compete. My wife and I sold our business for three times our gross annual sales. "Small-guy" gun stores could find ways to compete with WalMart or anyone else if they're creative and committed. If they're neither, then it ain't WalMart running them out of business, it's themselves. Anyway, to the guy that started the thread a few months back, if you're still around, thanks! We've got a GM and a gaggle of WalMarts around here, and I'll be danged if I'm going to lose one minute's sleep over finding the best deal I can on anything, especially ammo with the prices it's getting these days! | I personally go to Gander Mountain for ammo they have the best variety in my area. only thing nice about walmart is the 550 rd 22lr packs for about 10 bucks. I don't know of any local store that sells guns and ammo besides our ace hardware and they only have 2 different 22 lr boxes. if they had more i would probably go there because its right across the street.

| Whatever works for you, that's true..But when your Stoeger you just bought at Dick's or where-ever breaks, you can't take it back. You have to go to a gunsmith. He then charges you to fix it, but if you bought it from him the first time around, he would have probaly done it for free, just for the sake of customer relations. Try walking into Dick's or Walmart with a gun you want to return and see what happens. You going to meet the swat team in a hurry, and you'll be kissing the floor quickly. You might save a few bucks, but the little guy needs those few bucks more than the big guys, so I go to the little guy. The atomosphere is great, he'll talk your shoulder off, and all the techinical information is free. You just can't buy that at Wallyworld. I understand about the little guy as I was laid-of from my job after 35 1/2 yrs, because the company wanted to save a few bucks and send my job to China/Mexico. $260 bucks a month for the rest of my life is a pension?? But, to each his own. That's the reason we live in the best nation on the planet. We have the ability to think and make our own decisions. That's just my reason I go to the smaller guy. Don't want to argue, or start some political forum. That's what other sites are for!! |

| I'm not sure what I think of her yet, but she strikes me as a little cold-bloodedly calculating. I wouldn't guarantee I could sort out what she believes versus what she wants me to hear. The way Dick Morris describes her, she comes off kind of like a female Nixon when it comes to paranoia and vindicativeness. troy2000, you have just summed up Slick Hillary's personality and persona in three sentences. Unlike Nixon, however, she has done nothing in her political career (except run for president), and has no record of achievements she can point to as an elected representative. The record she can point to as a lawyer and as First Lady of Arkansas and FLOTUS fails to impress. While I actively dislike the current crop of boobs and slimeballs in the Executive Branch, I am sure Slick Hillary and the Clintonistas Part Deux would be worse, at least in terms of our civil rights and particularly our Second Amendment rights. To say I don't want her to be elected is like saying the Grand Canyon is a big pothole! Last edited by Cyrano; 12-11-2007 at 09:47 AM. | Hi Guys, I haven't seen a woman's POV on this subject so I thought I would toss my two cents into the ring. I do not shop at Walmart. I live in an area where the Walmarts of the world are destroying the small businessman and woman, not to mention the local economy. The money that Walmart makes off of citizens doesn't stay in the community but goes to the corporate pocketbook. Small businesses quickly loose ground and go under because Wally world is offering 'whatever' at 1-2 dollars less than the local shops. So people are willing to drive 15 miles and spend that saved 2 dollars in gas to shop at "Our Walmart". We do not have a close by Cabellas, Dicks, or Gander Mountain. We have to travel a goodly distance to reach the nearest one, but we travel if we have to in order to purchase shooting supplies or ammo that we can't find at our local gun dealer. Don't get me wrong, we don't have money to burn. It's a matter of personal preference and choice. I would rather go to the sporting goods stores mentioned above where I can at least find personnel who are half way knowledgeable in the guns and ammo they are selling, than go to Walmart where you get an 18 year old girl from the shoe department who's filling in for the 19 year old who's off sick and neither of them know anything about guns other than that they go BANG! they are BAD and they HURT PEOPLE! I would also pay a few more dollars with my local gun dealer, who is knowledgeable, informative and willing to hunt down whatever I'm looking for than a Farm King we visited recently where we were escorted to the door and handed our package...of...lead bullets. When we asked why we had to be escorted with a box of 45 cal lead balls for a percussion rifle, we were told it was company policy. Although you could buy how many boxes of shotgun shells with the required 'escort'. ![]() ![]() What did they think we were going to do with those bullets? Throw them at people? Or maybe wrestle old women to the floor and force them to eat them? Sorry but at least at the local gun shops, we get treated with respect, not like criminals and we know where the money we spend is going. Due to the rising cost of ammo, we reload our own whenever possible. Where do we buy our reloading supplies? Gun shows, or the local supplier. If we can't find it locally, we shop on line at Wideners even though it sometimes means paying a hazmat charge. I heard they are phasing out ammo/gun purchases at the local Wally world. Seems like the kiddies running the show weren't up on local gun regulations and blew it....probably lost their FFL....what a shame.

| Senior Member | Where i live the ammo is bout the same price wherever you go. The chains like walmart do not carry guns anymore and there supply of ammo is limited in selection. When you actually find something that you want then there is knowone around to get it for you. I support the local gunstore! |

| My last gun came from a local gun store, but I'll buy from anywhere. I prefer gunshows, I like the selection. that is also where I find ammo for the lowest. Wal-Marts selection sucks. I went to 2 different ones today and neither carried the ammo I was looking for. To top it of, I went to Gander Mt. after that and they were about $6 overpriced on the box of 20 rounds I wanted. I think ammo is on the rise though. |

| I think just about everyone on here would rather support a local gun shop and probably even be willing to pay more. There is no need to be so crappy. I agree wal mart is a monster that has killed a lot of mom and pop shops, but if your just going to single them out for your hatred and be hateing on anyone that shops there that is pretty lame. Do you feel that way about Lowes, Home Depot, Big 5, Dunhams, Gander Mtn, Bass Pro,Meijer, Safeway. It never ends. The point is know one wants to go somewhere and have someone be an ahole to them. We have a real nice local gun store here, and the owner is an ahole, unless your 60 yrs old and went to school with him he treats you like trash. His son is great. I go when he's not around. The point is not every local is someone you want or should do buisness with. If the local GM center was giving you problems would you go back just because? The guy just was being helpfull, Be nice. |

| I don't think Walmarts in Illinois sell ammo. I don't think they want to put up with Illinois FOID cards. |

| Snuffy Smith's post #52 pretty well sums up my feelings too. Money is tight and I have to save where I can. When I finally win the powerball Lottery I probably won't shop at Wally World any more.
