new ammo idea

many times ive been in the middle of a project and started daydreaming ideas... already ive come up with ideas for a hovercar that requires little to no fuel with most of it already have been proved via science to work, engines for cars that run on water, and many other things.. but recently i came up with a new type of ammo...

for police and military use, sometimes normal lead slugs tend to go through the target and harm people behind them... why not use a cap. of mercury with something slightly heavy in front or behind it to keep it going far enough to reach the target? mercury is supposed to be heavy enough to penetrate the pores on human skin... so if it was shot wouldnt it have enough force to go into the skin? because its a liquid it would quickly lose speed and stay in the target, but SHOULD have enough force i would think to do damage. im sure it would cost a lot to make, but you could have a cap. thick enough to hold the liquid, but break easy when hit.. like a paintball almost. or even just use a paintball gun with the pressure upped and filled with merc.?

any ideas for or against this? and if youd like to hear my other ideas ill open another thread, lemme know

Talking

The Geneva Convention and the Useless Nations would be appalled at the idea . . . :right:

Lets see I believe this is illegal to begin with and second like others have said mercury is very dangerous to be exposed too. If you want an explosive round buy something like the 22 calibers with a TNT bullet - basically varminting bullets.

Mercury is used in hollow point bullets to make them blow apart, mostly by professional assassins, drill out the hollow point, put in a couple of drops of mercury and seal the point with a soldering iron.

Since mercury (Hg) is poisonous, if a person ingested a even a trace amount of the stuff it would cause deterioration of his brain, and much more.

Read about some of the mercury dangers in the following link:

eh.. everyone immediately assumes i dont know its poison.. i have a bottle of it at my house and know a lot about it.. i recall having heard something about making it explosive, but that wasnt for my intent, it was more of something that would penetrate easily and remain in the other person... as for it being a poison -- it would be for anti terror stuff so if it works the way id like it to, poison would A. be the last of their worries, or B. be an added bonus. there is a reason your shooting at the person after all... perhaps those tv show's idea of having chilled bullets with liquid nitrogen loads? all of course wouldnt be feasible, BUT ya gotta admit... it could be interesting

*edit* also, as i noted in there i personally dont plan on doing this, its for MILITARY OR POLICE USE. im sure the atf would have no problems using it, they dont seem to care about legallity

Mercury will induce a number of Auto Immune Diseases (27, 34, 35, 42,43, 44, 60)

see! "mercury will A.I.D. you" :P

It's not a concern for the guy being shot,
but for everyone else around (cops, bystanders, enviroment).

I'd take getting shot over inhaling mercury any day
(as an innocent bystander).

Cool Would great for self defense.

Cool idea, as you stated, the person being shot have more to worry about than being poisned.

If I ever shoot someone, it would be for defense and I would like to do the most damage to my attacker.

Unfortunatelly, those rnds wouldn't be PC after all so I doubt those would be available for the civilians.

Probably the rnd you just described is allready in use by some obscure government organization (read spooks)

Wear gloves when using mercury, if you shoot a perpatrator or terrorist you'll get the desired results, it's not like you have to worry about contamiating the meat. Keep us informed, I'm sure we all would like to know how it works.

If the bullet doesn't kill you the mercury will..........

Bad stuff ;I don't want to be registered and pay a hefty environmental regulatory fee to buy these bullets. There's a reason why you can't buy it at Walmart!

The last Engineer I worked for had a vial on his desk. May I inquire how you got your?
