Had to vote for the .308. I don't have a long range rifle. I love the .223 as well.

.243 is 6mm

so if you have a requirement to hunt with nothing less than a .24 cal you can use the following

.243
6mm Remington
6x45mm
and on up

Yep, it depends on the use. I have one rifle in .223 and two in .308 - no .243.
I like both, but they each have their own uses.

308 for all purpose game and defense, 243 for medium sized game (smaller whitetail MAX), 223 for smaller critters or cheaper accurate paper shooting.

.223. But I agree, for what purpose? .308 is a great round, but I would rather carry twice the ammo, get beat up half as much, and be as accurate on the last shot, as I was on the first shot. (Just by not being clobbered by the recoil all day). Of course, I would have top of the line ammo for the .223. Which by all accounts is handloaded. At least a 20 inch heavy barrel, too. But it's really the preferance of the shooter...

I'd say .308 even though my first gun ever was a winchester .243 given to me by my grandpa about 4 years ago, and I do love to shoot it. But I like .308 better

FYI:

Coug_AR...here's how to convert .243" to metrics.

Since there's 2.54 cm in an inch the equation is:

1"=2.54 cm ... That equals 1" = 25.4 mm

Therefore to find the metrics equivalent of .243" multiply 25.4 x .243 which equals 6.1722 mm.

That's why Thrawn said 6x52.

I'd vote in this, but like was mentioned, For what intended purpose is this poll? Availible ammo? Cheapness of ammo? Surplus? Accuracy? Hunting-if so what game? Target-if so how far? Fun to shoot?
These are just a few questions that raise in my head.
Other than that, I like them all

I like 7.62 x 39, too. Because I miss the Soviets. It was really nice having one, definite enemy instead what we got now. :P
