After shooting thousands of rounds of Steel cased Wolf ammo in my SKS and Ak47's and Steel cased ammo in my Dragunov I have come to the conclusion that there has been absolutely NO wear in the chambers of any of my guns due to the fact that barrel and chamber hardness is greater than the Softer steel used for cases. The cases will scratch and bend...The chambers do not! I use precision Machinist Micrometers and have checked the chambers for wear to .0001 (thats 1/ten-thousandths of an inch) . Throat erosion after several thousand rounds has been Minimal as well so I am going to continue to shoot Wolf Ammo as well as Real Russian surplus Ammo . I will ask the Machine gun club members if they have any problem with the steel cased ammo when I get to the next shoot! They shoot Many more thousands of rounds in a weekend so they will know if anybody does about Problems! More often the Bore/Rifling wears out! Rich

I agree, I have shot thousands of rounds of wolf ammo and I have never seen any problem in my ruger mini-30. but maybe that is because thoses Ar-15 are such crappy guns.....

Notice a trend in the replies? The guys who say they like Wolf have shot a lot of it. I.e., they have personal experience. The guys who don't like it base it on "some guy told me" or "I heard". It worked fine in my AR and it's the most accurate ammo for my WWII Remington 1911A1. It is definitly loaded to full speed. Norm Oh BTW, tighter chambers have tighter "clearances" not "tolerances". A loose chamber, well manufactured, may well have lower tolerance than a given run of match chambers where each one is slightly different and needs ammo matched to the indivdual chamber. I have always used the 7.62x.39 Wolf and it treated me well. Sure, it may be a dirty round, but that is why I have a cleaning kit. They wouldn't be the largest ammo manufacturer in the world if their ammo didn't work.

wolf should not be looked at any different. people should clean with care after shooting ANY type of round, just to make sure of the 'health' of the gun

I have been notified through proper channels to take a look at the direction this thread is going. After reviewing most of the reply's in this thread I find no serious problem other than an occasional personal comment which has no place in threads. So...it would be wise to cut out personal attacks, stick strictly to facts and enjoy the opportunity to continue discussing pro's and con's of Wolf Ammo. :right:

| Wolf is fine for plinking
I have bought 2000 rounds of wolf .223 ammo. I shoot prairie dogs from my Savage Varmint .223. Wolf *occasionally* has a batch that is somewhat accurate, but more often, I find it wildly inconsistent. As an example, I shot 5 rounds of UMC bulk ammo and grouped ~3/4" at 100yds. I shot 5 rounds of Wolf, and the pattern was nearly 6". I shot another 6 rounds of UMC just to make sure, and the pattern was back to ~3/4" Wolf is fine for plinking if you don't care at all about accuracy and you just want to make noise, but if you intend to have any consistent accuracy my experience says stay away. |

It can come and go I guess. I shoot really good groups with AKs using Wolf, but I would be hesitant to shoot Wolf through my 1911. My SKS with a scope shoots really accurate with Wolf ammo and never jams. That doesn't mean that I would want to shoot Wolf through all of my guns, but when it comes to 7.62x.39 it works well for me. Like I said before, they wouldn't be the world's largest ammo manufaturer if their stuff didn't go bang. Those Russians are good at shooting and killing.
