.22RF Hollow Points illegal for target shooting in the UK?

Hi all im new to rifle shooting and currently going with my dad whos licensed but yesterday i was told that it is illegal to fire .22 hollow point ammunition. Ive done loads of research into this but all the sites i go on makes it feel like its a grey area and no definate law. So far i found you CAN use soft point, hollow point for practicing BUT not in fields according to some house of commons document 2001 i found. Can anybody verify this?

Matey, your best bet for info on local laws, is to look locally. Try a gunshop, they are usually clued in to whats what in your area/ country.

In the US or elsewhere? I'm in the US and I use hollowpoints year round, except deer season, then I use SPBT.

Gio, I took your advice. I'm in KY now, and I can buy anything. The waiting period is the the only thing that sucks, but even that makes sense. I know I can't complain.

For USA shooters FYI: I have a copy of the NRA smallbore rifle rules up at camp. The rules say that you cannot use hollowpoint ammo for NRA-sanctioned .22 rifle competitions. I think this is an old rule from way back, but IIRC it's still on the books.

Not exactly "illegal" but as close as I could find.

i run a .22 sil shoot and i have read the rules and didnt see anything about useing hollow points... the only thing i will not let on the range are stinger and some of the high vol. ammo... they will break the weld on the targets...

i have also done a few high power shoots and alot of the guys use hollow pionts... i do too.......
