| Wolf 5.56 55grain hollowpoints
For all you naysayers out there here is my experience with Wolf ammo. This is the stuff in the black box, has a GREY steel case. Not the old Green Laquered stuff. I wanted to see how reliable if reliable at all this ammo was. I have heard it was crap, it messed guns up, it was dirty, it was not accurate. I researched the company, I researched what people have said in forums then I did my own testing. As was said before I used the .223 55grain hollowpoints in a black box, grey steel cases, birdan primer not reloadable stuff. My test gun is a DPMS Panther Bull 20 with a 6x24 tasco Varmit scope. Ranges shot were from 25 yards to 200 yard as this is all my local range has available. I put a total of 1240 rounds through the gun. My first time out was to put 40 rounds through the gun and to break the gun in. DPMS says to clean the gun after every shot the first 25 rounds and then every ten rounds after that. I got tired of cleaning after 20 rounds, did not feel I needed to. DPMS also says not to shoot Wolf ammo in their guns. Anyway the first 40 rounds functioned flawlessly, all went bang, all ejected, all loaded smoothly. I did not notice any fouling of the bore or chamber that would not be normal. My second time out was with 1000 rounds, same ammo ordered from Sportsmans Guide at $215. I shot most at 200 yards at an eight inch gong. The first 200 rounds were shot rapid fire as fast as I could load magazines and pull the trigger. I experienced no malfunctions, no jamming, no failure to eject or chamber. I let the gun cool and cleaned it, no noticeable fouling other than what would be normal with other ammo. I tried accuracy testing this stuff to the best of my ability. 5 round groups were shot at 100 yards done at random so groups came from different boxes. My smallest group was .62 inches, my larges group was 1.1 inches with an average of about .80 inches with this ammo. I have not shot any other ammo out of this gun to see if premium grade stuff will shoot tighter groups, but I see no need because WOLF shoots tight enough as it is. I do not have a chronograph so I have no idea what muzzle velocity is but I would guess around 3000fps. I have had not one malfunction in 1240 rounds, no jamming, ejection problems ect. I have not noticed any residue build up, any abnormal bore or chamber wear. Maybe it is just my gun but this stuff works well, shoots well, and is half the price of everything else. If you dont like it you can send it to me because I will shoot it. I would say give it a try, it is not the old laquer coated stuff that gave this ammo its reputation, it is reliable accurate CHEAP ammo that allows me to use the toy I bought instead of that toy sitting in the safe collecting dust. No I am not affiliated with Wolf, they did not pay me, they dont know me. I just was curious and tested some ammo to see what all the fuss was. |

I've shot Wolf ammo for years in a Chi-Com SKS, several Mosin Nagants, two Mausers, and various handguns. The only complaints that i've had with any of it was that the early stuff was very "sooty" and my sons' Sig P220 wouldn't cycle it. I think the cycling problem was due to a brand new gun and a very stout recoil spring. I've shot literally thousands of rounds without a single failure of any kind.

I would agree. My experience with both Wolf and Magtech are positive! My wife and my wallet were the happiest with both brands. I haven't fired any Wolf through my Sig P220, but the Magtech feeds wonderfully. I do have a couple of boxes of Wolf 12ga slugs that I picked up at Cabela's about a year ago that work really well in my Mossberg 835. I think if you're going to shoot enough to be proficient you owe it to yourself to find some inexpensive ammo.

I've had excellent results with both the grey and green cases in my skss. the only wolf pistol ammo I've tried is the 7.62x25 jhp and thats so expensive i haven't shot enough of it to tell anything but where it hits and how the cz 52 liked it.

I have only had problems with the Wolf Ammo in my Pa-63 9x18 mak. In everything else it works great. I am going to be breaking in my Saiga .223 Tomorrow and will more than likely use the Wolf Ammo. I will take some five shot groups and post them for ya'll to see.

I've never had an issue with wolf ammo in any gun I have ever tried it in.

I'm still told not to use WOLF in my Colt HBAR...have to shoot 62 grn and above...too close of tolerances in an HBAR for dirty steel cased WOLF.... Now in my Milled Bulgy AK its a different story...WOLF 7.62X39 is all I've ever shot in her and will continue to do so.... Thinking about getting an ARSENAL .223 stamped AK...THAT I will have no problem shooting WOLF .223 out of...

Just my opinion. I have found that U.S. Commericial Made AR-15's or variants of it have problems feeding ammo made in different countries. On the other hand, a SKS will eat any ammo I've tried, even muddy rounds.

I've got to disagree with all the Wolf lovers but I shot my 1st & last Wolf brand today. Couldn't get any of 10 shots, 55 gr, inside 2" circle from 100 yds, 4" was closest. Immediately switched to Ultramax 55 gr FMJ & got 7 of 10 inside with the other 3 just outside. I was shooting a Remingtom Mod 700 SPS Varmint, 223.
