| rate of twist? im new to guns and im looking for a good target gun to start out with i was looking at a cz 452 becaue of its price and all the good things i hear about them, but when i was looking at the stats of the gun it said the rate of twist was 1:16 after it says that it says "making the the gun extremely accuate" but natually i thought if the ratio was smaller then it would be more accuate. like thats the whole reason for boreing a barrell is to PUT spin on it. so any ifo on the gun or ammo would be great. |

| A .22 rimfire is a low pressure cartridge starting at someplace around 12,000lbs in shorts and getting to about 18,000lbs in the highvelocities. They use pure lead or close to it to get a gas seal because harder bullets wouldnt expand against the lands satisfactory for a good seal.If they used a fast twist like 1in12" or so they would have trouble with the soft lead slipping in the riflingsand making for a very bad seal.So .22 rimfires are virtually limited to a cupped in base round nose bullet that due to the cup on the base expands against the lands and the round nose makes it shorter so it is compatible with the 1in16" twist. And a soft point would be susceptible to distortion in any other form. Originally the .22mag.was a souped up version of the .22special and had pressure great enough to seat copper jacketed bullets but to continue with the short body which stabilised in the 1in16"twist they stayed with the flatbase-roundnose bullet.I expect that to change some day because they could get better downrange performance with a spirepoint bullet.The.22rimfire riflings are 0.002 making the lands 0.222. sam. | The 1in9" is faster than the 1in16".The shorter distance a bullet travels to make one complete turn the faster the bullet spins if you have the same feet per second. sam. |
