Quality inexpensive practice ammo??

I have an older Browning BLR in .308 Winchester. Gun has been checked out by good smith and I got a new magazine per his recommendation. Says gun is fine. Anyway..........
Quality, expensive hunting ammo such as Winchester or Remmington works flawlessly and that is great for hunting. I am looking for something that I can afford for target practice that I can say the same about.
Have tried several of the off brands that cost much less and many of those cartridges do not fire, at least not the first time I pull the trigger.
It appears that these cartridges often have the firing cap a little recessed in the casing, where the expensive loads are uniformely even with the back of the cartridge casing. When shooting these loads, the ones that mis-fire are those that are the most recessed. The imprint of the firing pin is very small on these loads.
Can anyone recommend a decent practice round for a lever action rifle that doesn't break the bank?
Thanks, Tom

I think CCI Blazer line of handgun ammo featured an aluminum case to keep the cost down. I don't know if this would safe at .308 pressures.

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WITH CCI BLAZER!!!

I had to almost take CCI to court to get my GLOCK replace. I would never use aluminium casing for my gun. They are cheap as mentioned, but the it just couldn't hold the pressure. I would stick with brass casing. I am sure CCI make great products, it is just the aluminium is a very bad idea.

mcintyre, take a look at either Sellier and Belloit or Wolf Gold. They can both be found on the Cabelas website for representative pricing. Cabela's Official Website - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear at competitive prices.

I use Wolf .308Win for practice in my CETME. It's very dirty ammo (as in kinda smokey/sooty, not corrosive), but goes bang every time. It's Berdan primed and steel-cased with either laquer or polymer coating, so it's not reloadable.

Thank you all for the insite. I will avoid alum casings. Will look into the other recommended cartridges.

Well, CCI Blazer also has brass rounds... I use them pretty regularly in my .45 ACP without any problems... don't intend to even try the aluminum ones, though.
