60 grain 22 lr ammo

I read that someone makes a 22 lr round that is 60 grains
Anyone have any experience with this round in auto loaders?

I think that would be a great idea a 60 22lr. It will be slow but so is a 22 short.
And a lot of Ole timers here shot a lot of shorts. LOL
So why not a 60 gr.

Oh yea. CCI even has CD caps. They sound about like an air rifle.

found the info in Midway including ratings. Looks like it is a slower bullet but has same foot pounds as standard 22 LR ammo

The Aguila Sniper SubSonic 60 grain load is slow, heavy and tends to drop quickly. It's accuracy is limited by these factors, and the fact that many .22 rifles tend to show 'key-holing' due to the wrong rate of twist for it. Older .22 rifles tend to shoot it better, in my personal experience.
It's simply another tool in our bag - a good one if it fits your needs.
An excellent small-critter thumper at closer ranges.

Oh, yeah, they still make 'em. That Marlin Golden 39A in my avatar is sighted in with CCI shorts. I added a 4X scope. It is death to tree rats at 50 yards or less (maybe a little farther). I can keep my groups under 3/4" at 50 yds from my bench. And it sounds like you are clapping your hands.

No. But, my guess is an auto won't cycle it.

Personally, I don't see a purpose for a 60gr. .22 short. Do you really need a 60gr. bullet for squirrels and rabbits at close range??

They will cycle just fine in a 10/22 and will blow a .38 caliber hole in a steel drum at 50 yards...They work great with legal Silenced weapons, which they were designed for...

The 60 grainers DO cycle both the Browning Buckmark and Whitney Wolverine pistols. For awhile, it was the ONLY round that would function in my Wolverine, til I did a quick fix to it.

The way I see it, here a 40gr subsonic enters and exits a crow. A 60gr bullet is going to do the same. Dont really see the need for it, apart from trying to buck a bit of wind. Not really possible in the 22lr. Never seen them or tried them but Im sticking to my winchester subsonics.

There is no way a projectile that long can be stabilised in a 1in16" twist barrel.It would be impossible to have anything but keyholes. sam.

You all may already know about this place, but if not, it's got some of the very best prices I've found on 8x57, which seems to go up weekly. I've not shot the sniper ammo yet, but have some ordered. The S&B 196grspce is great stuff almost 2600FPS and just under 3,000FPE at the muzzle and I have used it. Just a note in the event the prices work for you too. of course, lots of other stuff there as well.

Montveil, Aguila are the ones who make the 60 grain .22 LR bullet, It runs at 950 f.p.s, I have heard it has devistating results at close range (15-20 yards or less.) But, I have also been told that because of its extra weight it has some trouble cycling in semi-auto's. I would still try it, from what people tell me aguila makes alright ammo. According to one of my shooting buddies, the 60 grain Agulia SSS has excellent "Whompability Factor"!

It'll definitely put a hurtin' on Mr Possum up close and personal!
