| Wal-Mart Rem./UMC ammo Has anyone else had bad experiences with Remington/UMC ammo. I'm talking about squib loads. I quit using Remington ammo years ago because of inconsistencies. The thing that got me off them was a 220gr lead MEDIUM load in .44mag. My buddy had noticed the recoil was excessive and asked me to shoot it and see what I thought. He didn't know if it was because of his arthritis or if it really had more of a kick. Well the first few rounds weren't abnormal. The next round had a fireball that singed the hair off my knuckles and wrist. It also bulged the cylinder. When we called Remington they no help and basically told us to prove it. I swore off Rem. ammo after that. That was in '93. Now my buddy has bought(against my advice) .44 spc. rounds that shoot high then low from a bench at twenty five yards. Some of the bullets hit the ground in front of the target. The latest thing is .357mag. loads that didn't clear the the barrel the bullet stopped about halfway down the barrel. It didn't feel right so he checked the barrel and there it was. I'm not saying all Remington ammo is bad but I don't and will not buy it. All of the problem ammo has been bought at Wal-Mart. Some of it was in the green and yellow Remington boxes. Some of it was the yellow UMC ammo. Is the Wal-Mart stuff different? Or is this a common problem.

| I bought about 200 rds of Rem 45ACP about two months ago in the boxs like you diascribed. Shot them all up. Didn't have any problems but they didn't feel right going down the barrel. Could feel a difference in the recoil. So I don't buy anymore of this ammo. Just reload my own 45 much happier. I have used very little off and on UMC ammo sinse the 80's I has alway seemed to be okay but they got bought out years ago and maybe that was the problem. I also bought CCI ammo from Walley World in 45ACP and thought it wasn't very good had rounds all over the paper I think it is kinda poor ammo, but have shot CCI from other sources and it was pretty good ammo. So my conclusion is Walley World is buying ammo that doesn't pass specs other buyers want and Walley World is picking it up cheap and passing it on to buyers who can't tell the difference or just want cheap ammo. That is just my thoughts on this whole deal. Be careful fingers don't grow back. 308 HOLES MAKE SILENT SOULS....RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!! |

| Thanks I was wondering the same thing if it was a special run of ammo of something. I know they do that with other products.

| i bought a bunch of umc in 223 cal . when they were 6.85 BOX. i had no problems with them, and no wal mart does not buy sub standard ammo, i don't work there, but, common sense will prevail. think how much umc sells in a day. no retailer will sell ammo that is inferior. |

| Joegun I wasn't saying or hinting around wal-mart sell sub standard ammo. It is just funny how rem umc, or cci ammo they sell doesn't seem to be up to par. I know other people have said the samething about those two brands of ammo. But also people have said they have never had a problem with those brands. I know from my experience that I will stay away from those two. Maybe I am to picky about what I run down my barrel, but they say hind sight is 20/20. |

| Any ammo manufacturer can have a bad batch. I swore off Winchester Whitebox 9mm when I had one blow the primer out in the gun, and the powder never ignited. Two other rounds in the same box had their primers in the pocket SIDEWAYS! Never had any trouble with CCI - it's my preferred brand for .22 rimfire.

| Have used cci 22lr for years and I just love them. The 45ACP was the first large cal. cci I have ever used. They were cheap and I just wanted to burn some powder that day and had none reloaded so I thought I would try them, that was the only reason I bought them thought it my be a cheap supply to play around with. I had problems and that doesn't mean the next guy will maybe a bad 2 boxs I don't know, but made up my mind that I won't go that route again stick with what I know. |

| I have bought lots of 9mm and .45ACP Rem/UMC from Wally's, and my pistols like it. Never a problem. My Colt M1991A1 hates anything marked 'Speer' though!

| FWIW, UMC isn't only sold at Walmart. I've seen, found and bought at Bass Pro also...Again, never had a problem with it and I've bought and shot 9mm and .40S&W.

| Bad batch of ammo, when you get mass production of ammo there are then to be bad batch. I had the same thing happened to me with CCI Blazer and was able to get them to replaced my gun. They same thing, they wanted me to prove it was the ammo fault. I would write to Remmington and ask them to replace or fix your gun or legal action will be taken. They'll ask you to send all the unuse ammo and orignal boxes to them and ship off the gun to either the manufactor or Remmington for inspection, just make sure you insure the gun when ship the gun off. I would give them a few days and start calling them or find ways of contact with the person handling your case threw e-mail. The fokes at Remmington know they have bad batches and may want to recall those production numbers. They'll try to denied the fault, but hey who know more about your gun then the owner! Good luck Al |

| That was over ten years ago. I tried to get him to hire a lawyer but he is on a fixed income. I quit using Remington ammo that day.

| Ok I took 75 rounds of this walmart ammo and pulled the bullets and weighed the powder. Remington .38 special...130gr FMJ...regular green and white box. 69 of them had 5.2 grains of powder with very little deviation. 4 of them had 4.5gr.....1 had 4.7gr and one had no powder just a primer. I have fifty rounds left to go. Is this a normal deviation for factory ammo? The one with no primer really makes me nervous. The lot no is L38S11 at least I think that is a lot no.
