17 HMR ammo selection

What kind of ammo do you shoot in your 17 hmr??

My brother and i both recently bought savage 17 hmrs. mine is the stainless synthetic heavy barrel, his is the blued walnut lefty heavy barrel. I am just wonderin what ammo y'all prefer? a buddy of mine also recently bought one and all three of us shoot different types of ammo and havent tested any others, but all are very accurate. I have heard this is the norm, but am just wondering if anyone has experienced an extremely noticeable difference in accuracy from any specific brand of ammo?

FWIW I shoot the Remington 17 gr v max boat tail. my brother shoots cci 17 gr v max and my buddy shoots federal premium 17 gr v max. all are extremely accurate.

The main reason im wonderin is i sited mine in on remington initially and it shot very well so i have been stickin with it, btu it is consistently a dollar to two more expensive so i may switch.

Also anyone notice better results one small game?? mainly groundhogs.

I've shot Hornady, CCI and the Remington brands with no problems. I see Winchester has now gotten into the .17 market as well but I have yet to try it.

If I had to pick one, it would be the Hornady.

Thats what i was thinking the hornady, but everywhere around here is out of the 17 gr vmax hornady. they only have the 20 gr gamepoint. but for now the remmys are shootin good i suppose. one review i read said of 5 brands tested the winchester was way out front...don't know if that is the norm for winnies or not though and like i said it was just a review i read...

All I shoot are the TNT's. Not based on price or on how it groups, but on it's ability to kill. Four coyote's and countless crows and rabbit's.

My CZ 452 shoots Hornady V-MAX the best, I can cover my group with a dime at 100yds off the bench.

^ Nice shootin. mine is close to that with the remingtons just off of a bipod and sandbag. i need to upgrade the scope i only have a cheapo simmons on it now that came on it. 3-9x40. Its gettin the job done and is reasonably clear so i guess its ok for now but jsut not great for target shooting.

P.S. On consecutive shots i hit a dime and a penny that were stapled to the 100 yds. not dead center but im still happy with hittin em lol. I think all 17 hmrs are accurate lol.

Oh and my remingtons killed 2 ghs yesterday. another ran off after being hit unfortunately. i was stretchin it close to 200 shootin at the 3rd and was tryin for a head shot and by the way he kicked and jumped i thought it was just nerves but then he ran into the fenceline and his hole

I purchased 2 boxes of 20 grain .17hmr for $22.00. I hope to test it out this weekend. I am debating what I will be using as my go to ammo considering its not been fired yet.

MY SAVAGE 93 SHOOTS 17gr vmax ANY BRAND. less than 3/4'' AT 100 YARDS. 5 shoot groups. the 20gr xpt and 20gr fmj are around 1'' at 100 yards. and the 17gr tnt shoot around 1'' at 100 yards.

I took the Savage 93R17 BVSS out on 07-22-09. I was pleased with the results. I actually tried out some Federal and Remington's, both .17gr. I zero'ed the scope in at 75 yards. I'm currently using a CenterPoint 4-16X40 A/O. The groups were under an inch and everything was in the bulls eye.
