Need help IDing... German dueling pistol?

Hey all, my husband's 94 year old grandfather gave him this gun today. He said it was one of a pair, he and his partner had split the pair "during the war overseas". He was in WWII, and we couldn't really extrapolate much else from him as he's got a touch of dementia.

The barrel is 10 inches long. The hammer is a dog. The gun itself is a little beat up, the wood's got some dings and the engraving's a bit worn. There's a name on the top, Jacob Moser. And on the side it looks like it says **In Munchen.

Any insight would be much appreciated. We're really interested to see how old it is. It really is a pretty gun

First, I question whether that's a duelling pistol. Traditional duellers don't have sights and usually have bronze barrels. It looks to me more like one of a pair of horseman's pistols. I'd suggest they were made circa 1800, and I'd be really careful about trying to cock it. The hammer looks like it's been cracked and brazed in the close-up photo.

If the plate on the right side is correct, it was made in Munich. You might want to have a German-speaker take a look at it.

Thank you! Interesting! How cool that it's 200 years old... Any idea if there'd be any more marks/identifiers on it? The cap on the handle seems really stuck, we don't want to try to pry it open and risk damaging it.

I forgot to mention... his grandpop says he traded a couple packs of smokes for the guns. Not a bad deal!

I would suggest finding someone who is good with wood working and have a case built just for it and hang it in the wall. Most hobby shops sell plexi-glass that is just as clear as real glass but it alot safer for just a few dollars.
