Latest Freakish Conversion Idea

Ok, now you guys are really gonna think I'm on crack, but here goes...
I've been thinking something we lack is a 35 caliber semi-auto carbine round that can use everything from heavy .358" bullets to defensive .354 bullets and be the ultimate anti-animal/barbarian round. It would be for short range (like sub 200yd). The Russian 9x39mm cartridge would fit the bill nicely, but it isn't being imported or domestically manufactured, and no guns are chambered for it. So what cartridge is a medium powered 35 caliber cartridge that could be good in an assault rifle size carbine?

35 Remington. And how would it be done? Well, its case is only 0.16" longer than 223", and the rim is only 0.013" wider than 7.62x39mm, meaning 0.0065" of material would be taken off the bolt face. Pressure of the 7.62x39mm is 45000psi, pressure of 35 Rem is 33500psi, so the reduction in material should be compensated for by lower pressures and forces. Figure it could feed from AR mags with more generous interior dimensions, or from special 10rd (till the ban goes away) mags specifically for that caliber.

So is that extra 0.16" too much for the AR action? Or does the Mini-14/30 have a longer action and make it a better choice for a conversion platform?

Well, I finally found measurements of the loaded cartridge, and the 35 Rem is .265" longer. Anyone know what the tolerances are in the AR receiver?

Just did some research, and if the 35 Rem was loaded with 9mm Pistol bullets seated to their normal depth, it's OAL would be 2.335, which is only 0.075" longer than a 223. Maybe I could call it a distinct cartridge while using brass and dies for 35 Rem.
